LP Generator

Hi, I'm curious how many have "gen sets" (generators), what size are they?
2. How are they powered, LP, gas, Diesel?
3. any problems or routine maintainance needed on LP units?
4. do they need to be cycled regularly (monthly, quarterly, semi an., or whenever you get around to it-)))?
thanks

lwcdg -

We use the Onan 5500 LP. I give it a run "every once in a while" as you say when we haven't used the Montana for a while.

Pro-

fits nicely in the Post midyear 2003 and up models
Designed exactly for the Generator Prep
Available any time I'm ready to push the button
Has sufficient power for 2 AC units +
Easy to service

Cons-

Will burn 2 tanks of propane in about 13 hrs of continuous use
Weighs 295 pounds which is added to the pin weight
Expensive

Have the Onan 4000, gas fueled. automatic start from inside bedroom or at the unit. Will run everything with the excepection of mirco wave and air conditioner at same time. We boondock for at least a month a year beside our regular camping. We have used it for the last four years and there has been no problems, only maintenance has been the yearly oil change.

I have the generac 5.5kw propane, and wouldn't be without it.
It powers the entire coach with the push of a button in the bedroom.
Its great to have full power anywhere you need it, and using propane eliminates the need to carry gasoline on board.
Well worth the cost.

we also have an onan 5500 LP and love it. We don't use it enough, but wouldn't be without it though.
