Propane Prices?

Haven't had to refill my tanks yet but have heard some horror stories about propane prices.
How much are you having to pay for propane and are there better places to buy from than others?

$2.00/gallon to fill RV type bottles, $1.70/gallon for home delivery of 100 gallons or more.

Most places here in southern Texas charge a flat rate of around 18.50 to fill a 7 gal tank. So you do make sure it is empty when you take it in. Around 2.64 a gallon..a little spendy.

$18.00 to fill a seven gallon tank here in Alabama, no matter how much you put in it.

Judy-
That's no way for them to sell propane. They should set the bottle on a scale and weigh it before filling and charge only for the propane pumped into the bottle. If it was empty to begin with....that's the $18 or $2.57/gallon for seven gallons.

Here in Holt, Florida we only had 6.9 gallon put in the tank and it cost $22.57 you do the math It was over $3.00 a gallon I think. I am no good at figureing these things out. Now we wait till we go to Tallahassee and fill them up for $ 1.74.9 a gallon at the Flying J truck stop.Yeah!! for Flying J.

Local place here and one in Las Vegas are all I have used. Both use meters similar to fuel pumps and sell by the gallon or portion thereof. Guess it is a good thing to shop around before propane is needed. Just checked my checkbook, last fill was 26 July 2005 and $1.50/gal. In Las Vegas I had a coupon from Sams Town for 95 cents a gallon at a RV sales place.

We have paid up to $23 for a fill in Bastrop. They don't measure what they pump in. You pay before they fill. They weigh and so you don't know how much. They were telling me it was $3.10/gal. It was much cheaper here in Rockport and they measured as they put in..you paid for what you got. That is the way it was in Washington and I feel it is an honest way to go.

Wow, I can't believe there are places that ACTUALLY meter/measure filling a 20 # propane tank. I thought it death, taxes, and flat rate for 20 # tank fill... I got to find those places you guys are talking about for our upcoming travels! Especially with the current price of propane.

Well, Charlie, you can believe that we only take an empty tank over there when we get it filled. I guess they're small town so they don't have it on a meter.

We pay $12.00 or less in North Alabama. The person weighs the tank and charges you for what you get. Then another place charges you a flat $18.50 no mater what it takes to fill up. It pays to shop around.

Go to the flying j website and then go to gasoline priceing, it will give you a listing of current days priceing on propane state by state as you scroll. Prices are a little steep on average, but it is a supply and demand thing. If I had to pay $3.10 I would be on the phone to my state rip off watchers and inform them that Jesse James is selling propane at this location.
