Cheep Brackets
If you have not crawled under your unit, you might want to do so. There are several strips of metal used to hold up various things like plumbing, wires, spare tire bracket, etc. These metal strips are rusting, some almost through, and I have a 2010 unit. Stainless steel or aluminum would have been better than the mild steel used. Just a heads up for you. I'm going to fabricate some stainless straps and stainless screws to secure them. It's amazing, pennies saved at the manufacturer, for what.

Right you are!
I expect that the closest competitors are the same.

We replaced all of our belly pan self tappers with stainless. Also the ladder screws.

I had better go look. Our 06 is pretty much OEM on brackets, etc. I suppose they could do better.

Every one of the self tapping screws on my rig are rusted to the point they can NOT be removed without breaking off the head. Looks like I will be driving new ones in next to them soon. Also all. Rackets are rusting... so is the frame. I hate rust!

Camper4, there is a special tool for removing broken and stripped heads. It works well. If not drill out the old screw with a smaller bit.

I ordered SS #8 screws with white heads and replaced all the screws on our rig. Also the belly pan screws. Good source is boltdepot.com. In fact, every screw I can access is now SS. Good luck getting the ones out when the head pops off...they're a bitch.

I just buy the SS screws at Ace by the box in #6,8,10s varied lengths. If they are going to replace something where color would blend them in better, I stick them in a piece of cardboard and spray the heads white or black. Getting the old ones out will be fun, I figure 3 screws to the beer ought to do it.

I just looked under mine today and saw a bracket rusted already and I live in a high desert climate!

When my 2009 Montana was only a few months old, I noticed the self-tapping heads and brackets beginning to rust. I bought some rusty metal spray primer and spot painted all the screws, brackets and gas lines. A few days later I sprayed again with a black finish coat. Not much time or expense invested and solved the problem. Did not want to replace the self-tapping screws because they never tighten up that great after the initial set.
