Hot Water heater maintenance question

I check ours once a year. The amount of the rod that wears off depends on the water source you are connected to. We've had years where we've replaced it and other years when we didn't. As kdeiss said, "...Replaced the anode once in 8 Seasons." I couldn't do that being full time.

Do yall ever think of what might crawl in that hole while the plug is laying in the bottom of the heater. I drain mine then wash it out with a home made pc of 1/4" copper tubing. then reinstall the annode rod don't want anything to get in there. JMHO
