Tire question

i need to replace all my tires and was looking at toyo Lt. 235-85-r16. is it ok to run truck tires? bought 2 goodyear marthron 2 wks ago and being told by a dealer in id. that they see problems with goodyear tires and since i just had a blow out on almost a new tire i was thinking of replacing all tires but don't know which tires to buy. we r full time and have an 07 5ver md. 3295 which weights over 13k lbs.
what is the best tire i can buy?

Most of us prefer LTs to Chinese made STs. Be sure they can handle the weight of your rig...check the GW of the axles.

all my mission tires and the chinese tires i bought in me. last june have blown out or gone bad. i just bought 2 goodyear tires in elkhart and was told that they were made in the usa. they have chinese written on the side. we are full time and travel a lot so i need the best tire i can get for the tra.
i know nothing about tires so thanks for your help.

I put G614's by Goodyear on mine. Made in USA. I had two Marathons on my new trailer that had bubbles in the sidewalls and Goodyear paid for all 4 to be replaced. I paid extra for the upgrade.

My last 5er came with 15" General tires but they were just barely adequate. I bought new 16" wheels and then 16" LT, load range "E" tires and loved them. They were ROADMASTER brand (I never heard of then before but they held up great). My new Monty came with the Marathon, made in China, tires and I will be keeping a very close eye on them untill I can replace them with LT tires from my local, trusted, tire dealer.

IMO, the LT tires should be just fine as long as their load ratings add up to enough to handle your trailer.

So...Lonnie is our resident tire man and always provides great input. If he doesn't respond to forum posting you could PM him. Sounds like you have Load range "E" and before you try the G614's you will need to confirm your rims can handle the recommended tire pressure for those. I would suggest ST tires are intended for trailer use and accommodate more sidewall roll/flex but many of us have gone to LT's and are happy with them as they could be first deployed on Truck and later moved to trailer refreshing the truck with new (a former forum member, tire expert used this method).

Assuming you have 6,000 Lb. or less axles, there are a number of us who have the Toyo LT tires. Our rig came with LT tires originally and I had no qualms about replacing them with equivalent LT tires. They are Load Range E with a capacity of 3042 Lbs. AFAIK.

I am a Goodyear G614 believer.
You need to do the numbers.
Take the rig and get it weighed, ideally weight per tire, but that is hard to find.
If all you can get is the total of the two axles, take the weight and divide by 4 and then put in a safety factor of 20%.
Say you only weigh 11,750 lbs, hey I am under the 3052lbs of a E rated tire, I am all set. NO you are not.
Remember, water weights a little over 8 lbs per gallon, the safety factor is for having extra weight on the tires.
You arrive at the camp site with empty tanks, you stay awhile, filling the gray, galley and black tank before you dump them say they average 35 gallons each 105 x 8 is 840 lbs, you have just added 210 lbs per tire.
Again, remember, what could be the max. weight you could possibly have on the tires, even when sitting at home or a campsite.
Just my thoughts.

I use the GW when computing tire data...and am very careful not to exceed it. Also, when weighing the RV alone, don't forget the pin weight which is carried by the truck, not the RV/tires.

I am in the process of getting Goodyear G614s based on the good reviews here. Tried to get them installed today but GY truck tire dealer did not have hp steel valve stems that would fit. I have posted this in other threads, the nut on top of the stem would not fit in the hale in the wheel which I believe is a Tredit T04. The dealer has ordered overnight another type that has the nut on the underside. I also ordered some from Tredit that they use on G614s, but they won't be here until Tuesday. For those who have put on the G614s, what did you do about the valve stems?

Update. G614s are on! The vavle stems they overnighted worked. The steel stems have a double lock nut that fastens from underneath and they fit perfect. Have tires inflated to 105psi; but might drop them to 100psi. My Marathon takeoffs are new and available; if interested send me a pm.
