Checking DI water in batteries

Hi everyone, this may be a silly question but: When you want to check the water levels in your batteries, do you use the main disconnect for the batteries or just pop the caps and add water as needed?

I check them without disconnecting.

I have a watering system so i just pump the ball till it gets hard ,batteries are full. It has work great for 4 years now ,no battery problems.

Do the same as you would your truck. Pop the caps off and check.
