Drawers/carpet

Just picked up our new 3295RK today. TWo questions: We've noticed the drawers just slide out. To open our previous drawers, you had to lift up and then pull out. We were wondering if anyone has had problems with items falling out of the drawers because of this??

Also we're wondering if the carpet will wear out real fast right by the door. Didn't realize it was carpeted there until we got home. Kind of wish they had extended the wood floor up to the door. Do y'all use a rug there??
