The Montana dealer in Pismo Beach just advised ne the solar panel will charge the battery with the battery switch ON or OFF.

Good to know. I left mine on and its working great. It's at 12.5 volts after 4 months of storage. Its a stored in mountains of az. I'm sure battery went down some until the snow melted of the solar panels
