Outside tv area leaking...

My outside tv area is leaking just noticed it today, I know there was a post about it but can’t find it. Maybe it was labeled something different. Does anyone remember the solution ? Looks like it needs bigger weather stripping it’s not creating a tight seal when closed. Thanks !!

you do say what model you have, but if the TV is in a small storage bin on the outside the problem is most likely the seal. Easily replaced with a peal and stick product.

I replaced some on one basement door. Bought it from my dealer by the foot. It was what they use, so I didn't get to see a box, they just cut it off a roll.

Leaking TV compartment door

Thanks Carl - that is the thread I remember, and to follow up - I have not solved the gasket leak yet, but the leak tends to pool a small amount of water in the bottom of the compartment. The TV works fine and has not been affected. I just get a towel and wipe it out from time to time. I suppose this fix has moved to the “I’ll get to it someday” section of my list.

I am tempted to get some 1/4” peel-n-stick weatherstripping and mount to the door to try to force a tighter seal to the factory gasket.

I ordered some new gasket materials. I’ll remove the old stuff and clean it down with alcohol then apply the new gasket, hopefully that will fix it. I read the older thread, and my silicone is right to the frame and coach so I’m not going to touch that right now. The gasket that’s there is pretty flat and doesn’t make much contact with door as far as I can see on mine. Pretty crappy !

With a 2018 model, I wouldn't think the problem is in the seal. You may need to adjust the locking mechanism. My old trailer (maybe new one too) had a slotted thing that you could move in or out a bit to cause the bottom of the door to close tighter. Also, I seem to remember there is maybe a drain hole in the bottom of the opening that can plug up but I may be off on this. If not off, the water runs to the bottom and works its way inside instead of out. Try using a hose sprayer and hit the door around the edges hard and see if this causes the leak and track down where it is getting in.

Ours is doing the same thing, its now at dealer for small warranty repair items, including this. I will report back as soon as I pick up the coach, to what their solution was, and IF it worked.

Tony,

I have used the outside TV door to run a direct cable for my Dish TV. I do not get a leak even leaving the door open the quarter inch to get the cable out. Your leak must be on the top seal.

Top seal I’m assuming you are not talking about the silicone but the actual weather stippping. If you are talking about the weather stripping I would agree it makes very little contact with the door. I have replacement weather seal coming in tomorrow. Hopefully it’s large enough and provides a tight seal.

All our outside compartments had leaks, they weren't sealed between the frame & siding. I removed them, added butyl tape, additional screws & then siliconed the exterior joint. What I noticed was the frame would move a little when the door was closed, not a good sign, now they are all water tight. I would remove the frame to check,if it is a small leak you may never notice till its too late. You will see right a way if it is wet on the back side.

I noticed that with that compartment and the two basement compartments on my 2018 3121RL if I am in a heavy rain while parked or driving I get water in my basement. I had to reposition the seals on all of the compartments and now they are dry for some reason the lips on the lower sections seem to tilt back collecting water, another poor design if you ask me.
