Alarm

Just wondering if anyone is using an alarm in the RV? If you do what kind?

Im not sure I even need one but I have one for the house thought it might be good for when we are traveling.

Have never seen the need. We rarely lock the door but do have a four legged alarm.

Eight years of full timing and have seldom locked the doors and we have cats and no dogs. On the other hand, everyone I've ever met who had theirs broken into either had it in for repairs or had it in storage.

First trailer 1970, wife not quite old enough to drink. One incident in all those years, when in storage, never in a campground. Alarm in storage would have been less than useful.

Alarm company consists of a consortium including S&W, Remington, Diamondback and Glock alarm companies.

Sorry I can't recall where but there are alarms that are well suited for rvs. Keep looking.

I'm thinking of putting a security camera in our unit that you just plug in and you get notices on the smart phone if there is movement within or the door is opened. They are not that much and we'll see if they work for us in the unit because I know they work at home. All it take is an internet hook up!

In terms of keeping a bad Pearson out while you are away one can get in to any RV with a screwdriver.Warning when you are inside can be accomplished with a noise maker of any kind a barking dog will do it. A motion detector that makes noise or turns lights on will work.

You can get trail cameras that hook to the internet. There is a monthly fee. When they take a picture or video it’s sent to you. The motion detector with noise sounds like the kiss method, keep it simple stupid.

We use Simply Safe. We've been broken into at the storage lot and got the alarm afterwards. We have the cameras too. We're going on the road in a couple of weeks for several months so will be able to 'keep an eye on things' when we're not at the 5th wheel. Monitoring alone where they call you and the police is $15 month. For $25 a month you can check on it on the internet any time you want. The cell signal is built into the base station. If you want more info PM 7.3Ford (my husband) and he can give you the scoop. Also if he refers you you get a free month.

We F/T. The dogs are our pals and are very territorial inside when we're not here. Nice to know the Siberians watch over everything we own.

As wife said, we have had SimpliSafe for three years. Wired it directly to the 12 Volts, via DROK Buck Voltage Reducer Converter 12V to 7.5V 3A/22W Step-down Power Module DC/DC Voltage, and put base station behind bedroom TV, where it was easy to tape 12 Volts.

I have solar on the roof, so I don't worry about batteries being drained, but that might be something to think about if leaving in storage for a long time without some kind of trickle charge.

Since I have Lithium batteries, I also have a Temperature sensor in the battery box, which I can check current temperature with my phone or computer. If it hits freezing, an alarm will be sent to me and dispatch.

Cameras require WiFi. If you want record what they see, it is an extra $5 per camera (which we don't do that). Live view is included in $24.95 plan, not sure about the $14.95 plan. We have a Cradle Point router with Modem Cap, so we have WiFi wherever there is a Cell tower.

PM me if you have any questions.

We have Simplisafe at home but it really isn't suited for use on the road. We picked up a Tattletale all in one unit that seems to work well. It has wireless sensors for the storage and generator doors also. It sounds an alarm and will send texts if there is an alarm. We figure if there is an issue while at a park and we aren't around, we'll just call the RV park office to have them check it out. Pretty inexpensive.

One simple thing to do is when it is in storage take the batteries out, and leave your battery door unlocked. Thieves mostly want to steal the batteries out of the numerous RVs in a storage yard. Might as well trickle charge them as well while you have them at home. One other thing, don't store anything really valuable that can be carried off in your under storage areas, because that black key that you use to lock it, works on any new Montana. I had to replace two locks on a cabinet that a thief was trying to undo with a cordless drill, and the RV service center said don't worry about getting it keyed alike, they are all the same!!!

I have my 3920 stored at my house and plugged in. One thing when CW had it for 3 months I have noticed that my batteries deplete very fast now, when it goes back ill have them replace them. When I went to CW to check on progress it was dead and unplugged so maybe new batteries. When plugged it it does charge the batteries right....?

I have a gray key for the basement storage, purple key for the door and deadbolt. I went ahead and changed the front storage and propane added new locks. I did leave the leveling system door lock factory maybe I should change it..?

Propane doors should not have locks - they need to come out quickly in the event of a fire.
