New Montana 3931FB + New Truck

Full timed for 15 years in a large 2009 motor home and have never owned a fifth wheel so all info is very much appreciated!!!
We are working with a dealer in Florida to try and close a deal in the next couple days on a 2019 Montana 3931FB, GVW 16,500, Hitch 2530, 40'5". We will place an order for the truck once the fifth wheel is purchased. We are not wanting to go to a dual wheel truck and are considering a Ford F350, 4x4, 6.7L Diesel with payload capacity of 3950. We are thinking we are well within our limits but would like any input from others using a similar truck/rig. Want to avoid towing issues. Direct contact from anyone with the bath and a half rig with model specific info would be great!
We are looking forward to this new adventure. THANKS

We like having the half bath. Other than dumping two rather than one black tank, no concerns. A rear tire blowout at 65MPH towing the fiver with my two grandsons this summer made me appreciate our dually.

Don’t understand the folks that rule out dually. Your definitely in that territory.
My 5’3” wife took ours from me she likes it so much.
Don’t do bank drive ups but that’s about all.
Enjoy your new rig!

OP you will be fine. No reason to get a dully.

Hope you enjoy your new truck. You will have to wait for the truck for about 45 days but it's worth the wait to get what you want. The 19 M/Y may even be a better truck.

I have the B&W hitch. You will be happy with that hitch. I also got a side step from these guys http://www.amp-research.com/products...tep2%e2%84%a2/

Love my dually....considered a single, then remembered what my old Daddy said..."better to have and not need, than to need and not have"....your choice though. Different strokes for different folks!

We have a 3911 FB 2017 model our first 5er and we love the 2 bathrooms. Pull with a 2017 Ford F-350 2WD dually longbed. Extended wheel base with 50 gallon tank. 2WD has better ride and sits lower so less worry about hookup and low bridges. Did not go with the 4x4 don’t need it but find the dually best for stability and safety. Wife enjoys driving it too. Installed BW Champion hitch and Ford puck system. Enjoy your new rig!

I'm in the Dually crowd, because that Dry 2530 pin with grow to 3000 to 3500 easily once you start packing stuff in and once you add a driver and passenger you're already out of cargo capacity before installing a hitch.
I have to ask tho: How do you Full time for 15 years in a 2009 unit?? Assuming a typo there somewhere.

First congratulations on your new rig. You have hit on a hot button topic on the forum. You will find quite a few lengthy threads where a plethora of opinions are shared regarding the subject. In your OP you listed what I think is your dry pin weight from Keystone. This number will not be an accurate reflection of your actual pin weight once you load your basement. You will be surprised how fast that number will climb. Weighing the unit once you load it is the only way you will accurately know your pin weight. Take that into account along with two adults, gas, and any other items you carry in your truck then examine this total with respect to your payload capacity. Once you have purchased a truck is not the time to find out it doesn't meet your needs. Best of luck with your search.

Same here & DW (5'0") does most of the driving & towing.

Our old Dodge SRW had the specs to tow our rig but the best tires we could buy were still under rated for the load. After several tire issues, bead seperating and side wall issues we broke down and bought a dually.

You "don't understand"? Please allow me to help you "understand" First, not everyone is a full timer. Some of us have garages that truck has to fit into. Garages that are shared with another vehicle and we're not about to park a $75,000 truck out in the elements. Next is the pain in the rear of fitting a dually in town, parking spots, drive-throughs, everywhere except a road actually. Next is the additional cost to buy and maintain a dually. Why put up with all of this when a SRW will work fine? For 6 years I pulled a 3400RL with a SRW 3500 short-bed without one single issue, ever. Nothing. I'm soooo glad I didn't go down the dually path. It would have offered me nothing in return that I ever once needed. Does that help you understand why many of us ruled out a dually from the get-go?

With all of that weight on the rear axle, if one tire blows out in the rear, it will be nasty. At least with a dually, you could limp along to safely get to a place where you can repair the blowout. Same thing I feel about people pulling boats with single axle trailers! Always good to have that safety net. Plus someone else said her, by the time you add the weight of wife and you and dogs and hitch and full fuel and accessories, then drop that 3931 pin on the rear, which I am guessing will be closer to 3,200 especially if you put the generator in front, and bingo you are over weight carrying capacity with the srw truck.

Dually's definitely handle better, but i do have that same question of another person's post. How well do they work out when your out sightseeing in some of these parks that have small parking spaces or when you drive into the cities like DC, to bad to have to take a cab everywhere you go to sightsee

We have visited 41 states and two provinces in Canada, and gone to about 80+ RV parks in our 2017 Monty and dually truck, and there have been a few times where it was really a close call with a dually, like parking in downtown Boston, or driving around some of the back streets in Carmel, CA, or doing the "Going to the Sun Road" in Glacier Natl. Park! We did it, but it was a hair raising experience. When we go out to restaurants, I love handing the valet my keys, and say "You park it" :-) Beats trying to find a good spot, and they usually have some really open areas right in front to put the truck. My wife looks on line for parking garages and makes sure the clearances are good, and always tries to find outside parking lots if possible. Too bad I did not have her document all of this to share here???

If you are full timing and load out to 16500 you will be looking at 3300 for pin weight on the low end and possibly 4000 lbs on the high end, though the latter is unlikely. Using the low end number, that leaves 650 for the hitch in the bed, any gear you will carry in the truck and any passengers. It sounds like you are pressing your luck IMHO. Yes the truck will tow it, but stability and stopping ability will be challenged. We are looking at a 3811MS... similar in ratings to yours but we will not consider anything less than a dually. Basically it's all the reasons and situations you can't think for having it rather than the ones you can think of.
JHMO.

Congrats and welcome, with the 3950 CC and the 2530 pin weight that only leaves you 1420lbs of stuff to load in your basement, it added up real quick. And this is just playing by the manufactures numbers.

Welcome to the MOC. family from Washington St! Congrats on the new Rig. I'm not getting into the truck debate. But I will get the popcorn!

I have the same truck, pulled a 2016 Montana 3610 all over Canada and Alaska, 11,400 miles on this trip, worked outstanding, did upgrade the tires to G rated

forget the dually crowd, a F350 single wheel is fine.

if you are dealing with lazydays or camping world down here I'd suggest you contact april at lake shore rv in michigan. they will beat your deal by thousands. and they deliver anywhere in USA.
I looked at a lazydays price and it was about $8K higher than Lakeshore.

if you are not going to get the IS suspension system then get the 'legacy' package for the disc brakes.
