Fridge and the island

Here's a new one. I opened up the RV to get ready for a trip and found a strange problem. I heard a bell going off. What I found was the refrigerator door on the right bottom had a large dent in it and the door on that side was out of line and would not close. It appears the Samsung residential fridge had smashed against the Island counter top. I checked and the fridge is bolted to the wall so it couldn't' move and the Island was totally secure.
Talked to Keystone and they had no answer but they will fix it since it is under warranty. I am waiting for a service date from Camping World.

I spent some time trying to figure it out and the only thing I can see that might have happened is when the hydraulic slides in the kitchen (they come out together) the side wit the fridge starts and comes out from the bottom and the top stays so the slide is at an angle. It then stops and the other slides comes out fully and at that time the fridge side starts to move again and finishes. Maybe when the slide is at an angle it pushes against the counter top.

Hope we get it figured out. So much for this trip. Hope to get another in before the weather turns.
Anyone else have this problem?
Lynn

Your reefer door came open and hit the island and then closed again. There is a device that you should have that locks all 3 doors to keep them closed. Keystone didn't know this?! LOL.

Look in drawers and under kitchen table for a black knob with about a 5" bolt on it. That is what you need to secure the fridge doors for transit so they don't open during that time.

Several folks with residential fridges and rigs like ours have expressed disapointment with that issue.

Here is a pic of that knob. I had to add a washer (1/4x2 plastic disc) to keep the door really closed. The original washer was borderline too small to make me feel secure.

If you find that the freezer door seems to be out of alignment and will not close evenly on both sides or corners. Try this. Grab the door and open it all the way. Then close it a couple of inches then give it a hard pull to the open position - make it an abrupt, kind of a "slam open". That will usually get the rails aligned and timed so it will close properly.

This was not a case if the door opening while moving. We use the little knob to hold the door. The RV was parked in our driveway. We had been in it several times after it was parked. Something happened when the slide was closed.

Just so I'm clear on sequence of events. 1) 5r parked in driveway 2) Y'all had been in it several times while it was parked 3) The slides were open and at some point while in the driveway it was decided to close them 4) Later, it was discovered that the right side refrigerator door had a dent on the bottom? Or was it on the front? I would like to see a pix of door. It might help the group help you. At what point was the "knob" put on? B4 closing slide? One other thing I do when closing the slides is to watch that kitchen slide move in. It can be easily seen while holding the button. It does get very close to the sink cabinet and does move in a skewed manor when opening. I'll add again that the "knob" seems to just barely hold the doors closed in its as delivered configuration. I did not like that so added the extra large plastic washer. I would suggest opening and closing the kitchen/dinning slide several times and watching its action to see what is going on. Do this b4 replacing the door ($194)

Up Date. Keystone is refusing to replace the fridge door. According to Camping World it is incidental damage.
Done with Keystone.

I think I read another post where the island was actually installed 'off' a little bit. The dealer moved it over an inch or so. So it may NOT be incidental damage.

New development. We found that the screw that holds the fridge tight into the wall was stripped and had come out of the bracket. So it looks like someone at the plant was in too much of a hurry to finish the unit. I need to figure out how to put pictures on again. We used a tap to put good threads back into the bracket, bought a new $17 bolt and screwed it in correctly. Now all I need is a replacement door. I will try to get pictures on this thread.

Looks like the fridge door might have come open while slide was being brought in. Hinge was the point at which the outside skin moved. Door hit island and after doing damage moved under the pressure to almost closed position you found it in.
We tape a chunk of memory foam on the island corner before traveling just as a safety precaution.

Lock knob

This is the fridge lock. It screws in where the three doors meet. You should be able to get it from your dealer.

We had that happen while it was at the dealership before we picked up our brand new camper. What we think happened was they closed the slides but forgot to push the table back into the wall first. We found some scratches on the island molding that matched up to table height. We figure the table pushed the island into frig when both slides retracted. Apparently it has happened to many other people. (I've read on other forums.) It didn't loosen the island from the floor luckily.
