2011 Dodge 2500 Cummings

My son recently bought a High Country and is interested in a performance computer for his 11 Cummings. Which one is best or most recommended? Also, which air system and exhaust?

Personally, I dont see a need in modding the engine but to each his own. People do it every day and many have changed back to stock because of the constant alarms they get. The engine in stock configuration has ample enough power required for towing the HC.
However,
I would look into getting a Throttle Sensitivity Booster. The module basically manipulates the signal from the TPS so the computer will fuel harder quicker

If he has his mind made up to mod it, XDP offers a great range of products at good prices. The service is second to none.

Air system.....Firestone bags

Just my 2 cents worth

We have a 2010. Have towed over both the eastern and western mountains and wouldn't do anything to my engine.

I understand some of the people who made tuners for the Cummings engine was put out of business by the EPA. There are a few of the tuners still new floating around. A friend just bought one for a 2011 Cummings. His was makings oil and he needed a tuner to get rid of the DPF. He got one from Rudys Diesel at 866 757 6537. I have dealt with than and will vouch for them. They are a good honest company.

After reading the previous post let me add. My 6.4 Ford has been tuned for 7 years. I have never had a problem and would NEVER put it back stock. It has never thrown a code and if it did I can erase it with the tuner. It is a better far better truck than when it was stock. It has over 600 engine HP but that is not all it is much much responsive, runs cooler. It is just a nicer truck.
I don't doubt you can get bad tuners but you can also get good ones and Rudys Diesel knows the difference.
As for exaust he will be taking the DPF off then you have a straight through pipe so done worry about the exaust. I would not change the stock air filter. Unless he goes with way more than stock say 700, 800 HP he wont need anything. Definitely do not use a filter like a K&N.

We have 2010. All the power I need, and the exhaust brake, and tow/haul work well.
I would leave it alone.

I also have the 6.7 but an 09 I have more than enough power and didn't need to spend any money on a chip or enhancing items. it pulls better than my 96 power stroke and I had everything that Banks made for that motor installed.
leave it alone and stock. spend that money on camping gear.

I agree with most that these diesels do fine without any assistance. However, if I was going to check on increasing performance, the first thing I'd check is to see if the transmission can handle it.

Lynwood, you caution against using a K&N filter. I haven't heard that one before, what is the reasoning for not using?

The K&N filter doesn't filter very well. They like to tell of all the race drivers who use their filter. That all fine and dandy you but wont your truck to last 500,000 miles not 500. The people who tune their trucks say the K&N filter will dust your engine. In other words let dust past the filter and ruin your engine. I've seen independent test on filters the OEM are the best and the K&M are on the bottom. If you run your truck wide open your truck needs all the air it can get that is where you need a K&M but we don't run our trucks like that. My truck has over 600 HP the OEM is more than good enough. If I installed a tune that would give me 750 HP, which I have and load it in my truck in 20 I would need less restrictive filter.

The standard Ram transmission will not handle any more power the Asian I'm not sure how much power it will handle. It is a far better unit than the old one. The Allison 1000 will handle 900'TK the Ford box will handle 1600 TK so I would think the Asian will handle more than engine is putting out but as far as I know the figure has never been published.
