Don't think our neighbor likes us.

Checked into the Thousand Trails campground in Batesville, IN yesterday afternoon. A male cardinal has decided that we have invaded his neighborhood. He sits on the back ladder of the Big Sky and flies and pecks at the back window. He started right after we backed in, took the night off and is back at it again this morning.

Maybe you shouldn't hang the basket of fruit in the window

Time to buy one of those plastic owls and hang it back there, or buy a BB gun.

He's pecking away as I type this. He's got to have a sore beak by now. I'm afraid if I give him too much fruit, Dick, he will want to autograph his work, if you get my drift.

Males will do that for a period of time around "baby" time. They get extremely protective of their territory. We had one knocking at his image/reflection on a basement window. Was quite annoying.

We have forgiven him, as we now have babies. You can see more here. Fresh outta the eggs.

They now have feathers, this photo taken right after birth.



Daddy is now busy with feeding, and our quiet has returned, no more pecking on the windows.

We Had the same thing happen at our house with a robin. A quick google search says the same as Carol above. The article said to put newspaper over the window so the bird couldn't see itself. So after newspaper on the first window, then it moved to 2nd window, then moved to camper window. I was running out of newspaper to cover all the windows on the house and camper.

Then it finally stopped, house and camper looked really funny with newspaper all over the windows...

Actually he's quite amusing. He isn't hitting very hard and isn't causing any harm. He goes away at sunset. We are not going to be here very long so in a couple days he can have his territory back.

We had the same thing happen here in the S & B for three years. The bird in our case was a robin. We have film on our windows and it reflects the sun in the morning and evening. In the morning our buddy robin would start attacking the master bath just before sunrise and continue for about two hours. He would fly into the window trying to drive off the invading other robin which was actually himself. I finally just opened the window slightly and the reflection would change and the robin would finally fly off thinking he scared his opponent off!
While out at a campground several years ago we had bird attach on of the side mirrors because it saw itself in it and thought it was competition in his area. Finally gave up but he sure did make a mess of the side of the truck!

We are experiencing the same thing, right now, with a Cardinal, the NC State Bird, at lake Waccamaw NC. Guess we just wait until babies are hatched.

We had them do that to our old sob that had mirrored windows. But they did it for 2 summers. Now I ain't sure if it was the same bird but 2 summers we had birds pecking at our rear window. Just figured it was the mirror finish but he did leave marks on the window.

Put a pic of 2 cats in the window, one with a cardinal in his mouth and the other with a hungry look on his face! LOL

Look for a nest nearby. we have the same issue now with a Robin that nested in our Garage. Eggs hatched two days ago.

At our S&B we had female cardinals pecking continuously at a bedroom window. It went on for two years. We put a plastic owl on the window sill (over our bed) and the cardinals have been gone for the last 7!

Day 4 and he's still at it. Other than "autographing" the back sill, he's causing no problem. We will vacate his territory in the morning.
