I got this call this morning!!!!

And the man said “I hear you have experience with heavy equipment?”

Well after I found out his assistant manager had given him my name and my son gave him my phone number we continued the conversation.

We went on with the conversation he insisted I come and look at his facility and his small tractor to see if I would be able to help him.

So I got direction a 43 mile drive and the last 5 miles of a gravel road that had the ranch name on it.

This is a medium size ranch only about 3,000 acres the Deseret ranch is 540,000 acres.

Well I drove out there and his facility is quite nice for a ranch repair shop, and well equipped.

I looked at the small tractor.

The story is he had a mechanic that was working for him and disassembled the tractor for repair. Then had a death in the family and never came back.

Next he had a mobile repair service come and take the parts away to clean and prepare them for installation. They have been put off for several weeks by this fellow so they are going to recover the parts.

It looks like a fun project so I agreed when he gets the parts back and a manual for the tractor I will give it a try.

THEN he says our big tractor needs some hydraulic lines replaced and a muffler, would you be interested in taking a look at that.

The big tractor was out working on the far side of the ranch so it will be a while before I see it.

I saw and got to get on a Case tractor last year while was out west I think in SD. This thing has 4 tracks the seat was at least 10 feet off the ground had 500 HP and cost 1/2 million dollars. I told a customer about it and he said one of his customers had bought 3 JD combines had paid for 2. They cost $760,000 each.

I don't remember hearing about a farmer who couldn't/wouldn't work on his own stuff. I know that like cars, farm equipment has gotten more complex, still from what your photos show, it doesn't look hard, just larger than what most mechanics would be used to working on. Have fun and stay safe!!

Looking at the front bumper it looks as though
he has hit a very large stout animal of some sort
to place a bend in it like that.

This unit has a fully automatic transmission. The hydraulic clutch pack that is still in the unit is a big as the Allison transmission in my 2009 Duramax.

Then on top of that they don’t have a maintenance manual. They do now at a cost of over $500.

That is an “H” beam they are much easier to bend on the outer edges than an “I” beam.

Maintenance manuals have turned in to big buck items! When I bought our 06 Silverado, the Helms manuals were $150, which I thought was outrageous. I just priced them for our 2015 and they have jumped to $450!! Apparently the increase is because the dealers no longer buy them, just repair shops and goofy guys like me. The dealers use an online system, which I'm trying to get access to.
