Tank Moniutors

I know this is an age old problem, but I have to ask anyway. The black, gray and freshwater monitors on my 2011 3400RL are undependable. The black continues to show full after being dumped and flushed out. Any suggestions?

Yeah, pretty much forget about them and work out your own dumping schedule

I have noticed that the "W" RV manufacturing company has outside non fouling monitoring devices on their motor homes.

After you've been RVing for a while, you can pretty much tell how many days usage will result in a full tank.

Our grey tanks, and the fresh water tank seem to be fairly reliable. I didn't say accurate, just reliable. The black tank, forget it. We just use the "burp" method, which you'll learn over time. For us, it takes from 7 to 9 days to fill the black tank, depending on how many chili burgers I eat!

There are several external sensor tank monitor systems available. I installed one in my Diesel Pusher before trading it in on the Montana, so I know how easy it is to install and how accurate they are. Camping World used to list one in their catalog and still may carry them in their stores...which is what I used, but now the brain can't pull out what brand it was. The external sensors in the kit mount on wide copper tape that is applied to the side of the tank/s and feed back to the monitor which tell you the exact percentage in the tank. John

I went through the same thing with fresh water and black tank monitors on boats for years. They never worked right on my used 3400RL and within 2 weeks my new 3725RL black tank monitor quit working. I don't even check them anymore and I wouldn't spend .10 cents to fix them.

Mine work great. It's all about tank care and your relationship with the almighty! I am sure of it! Lol

Maybe what Keystone needs to do is install what we had on board ship. They were called "sounding tubes" and went from the deck (floor) down into the tank. We had a long tape with markings on it for how many feet/gallons were in the tank, be it fresh water, or water in the hull voids on the ship. Keystone could install the "tubes" and give us either tapes, or sticks to drop in and "sound" the levels. Of course, you would definitely want to keep the black, gray, and fresh water ones clearly marked and separate from each other!!!!

Don'tcha just love great ideas like this? Maybe I should get a patent on it.....!

If it really bothers you, the Sea Level II system is supposed to be quite good and is an owner installed external tank monitoring system.

You can get good tank monitoring systems, but you'll have to pay more than Keystone is willing to pay. I wish they would either eliminate them and their cost, or put one in that works and add it to the price. Right now we are paying for something that does not work.

I used the iSeries from Tech-Edge Manufacturing...just couldn't remember the name. Will be putting it in the monty as soon as I get to New Mexico for the summer because I like working in 10% humidity more than I like working in the 70-90 plus % humidity of Southern Florida. John

Had a Garnet Sea Level 11 system on the Revolution diesel pusher I recently sold and the fresh water indicator never did work right. Replaced the transducer strip and spent hours chasing wiring as well as talking to Garnet and finally gave up and lived with it broken. At least the one in our new Montana works at present.
