It's cold!

Just got off the phone with a friend who lives in Minot, ND.

He said that since early this morning the snow has been nearly waist high and is still falling. The temperature is 32 below zero and the north wind is increasing to near gale force. Wind chill is -59. His wife has done nothing but look through the kitchen window and just stare.

He says that if it gets much worse, he may have to let her in.

And I thought it was cold here in northern Ky. at -4f with 5" of snow on the ground this morning. Now it's +7f and I guess I should be thankful............I want NO part of -23 and waist deep snow! Poor guy.

I feel guilty here in Northern Calif with the temp to be in the low 70, s today. The bad part is we have had no rain so water rationing is starting. They are still sending most of tne Northern California water to Southern California, have to keep the swiming pools full.

The joke is good, but the cold, snow and wind certainly are no joke. Here in Yuma we're in one of the few places in the country still warm and very grateful for it.

Wow, I can't imagine... living here in So. Cal and with 73 degree weather outside at noon and it's expected to get to 80. We have a little bit of wind but we don't talk windchill anything. I'm guessing they musta had great but possibly windy weather at Quartzsite.

I've learned NEVER to leave the house without the housekey... Being locked out of the house by my overly cautious wife too many times has trained me well. That wife needs her own key.

A little known factoid:

Unofficial State Bird of North Dakota is the Kee Bird.

You may have seen them, but never knew what they were called. Mostly, they sit on fence posts, singing out periodically their very distinct call to other Kee Birds up to 1/2 mile away.

If you see one while driving down a secluded section of highway, pull over and wait a few minutes, and if you are lucky, you just may be rewarded with their song of



...."Kee-kee-kee-ryeminy it's c-c-c-cold!"

Tom-- While in the Air Force there was a saying that went like this: " Why not Minot?" The weather conditions up there presently is exactly why that saying came about! With the land being as flat as it is up there it has now place to stop the snow and it just keeps blowing!
It was bad enough when I came back from Okinawa and got stationed at Kinchloe AFB(sp?) in the upper peninsula of Michigan. That specific winter we had 13 ft of the pretty white stuff. It was no fun out on the flightline I guarantee that! Had base housing and the snow was drifted up to the base of the windows in the upstairs bedroom. Didn't see the street out front of the duplex till mid May because they piled the snow from the driveway into the front yards! Road over the top of 13-15 ft pine trees with the snowmobiles.

All kidding aside, in the early 70's, I met a guy who came from upper Minnesota. Early each winter, he would get a letter (no email then!) from his folks saying it would be the last one until the snow plow could make it through again, and in April he'd get another one that would state the plow was running again.

I'm here in southern California and continue to receive water from the north. When we were in Quartzite the weather was between 75-80 degrees with no wind.

Here in Northern Ky. the winds have picked up and are now around 30mph and it's starting to snow pretty good again. Calling for 3-5" tonight. I HATE WINTER!! Still gonna try to go to the RV show in Louisville tomorrow. Gotta do something, starting to get cabin fever.........

How do you tell who are northerners in Florida? They are the ones wearing tee shirts when the temperatures are above 50 degrees.

How do you tell who are the native residents of Florida? They are the ones with heavy parkas when the temperature drops to 70 degrees.
