repair ripped linoleum

A plug to our space heater got caught under the kitchen slide. We didn't realize it until after we had put the slide out. It made a jagged tear about 15 inches in the linoleum. Any ideas about how to repair it without replacing the whole flooring?

Not the best solution but you could try a heat gun or hair dryer - heat the linoleum and then press and smooth the tear back together. I was able to do this on a minor damaged section of my floor. Not sure what model you have and how visible the damage is but cutting out the piece and replacing is another option?

If you can get a piece of the same flooring you can cut out the damaged section and replace.

You place new piece over damaged area, tape it down so it will not move and cut through both pieces. Then remove damaged piece and glue new piece in place. The patch will be less noticible if you cut along the joint lines of the squares.

This may help if you need a visual.

There is a clear glue that installers use to adhere vinyl seams that does a good job and is not noticeable.
Most flooring installers would probably have this glue.

Thank you. I think I'll try the glue first and see how that works. Then, if need to, I may try replacing a piece of the linoleum. I found a place under the kitchen drawers where I could take a piece.

Kathy, if you will be at the NE rally in PA I'd be happy to take a look at it. I'll have tools on board (as always). Not that far off....

Thanks for the offer. I guess I can't take you up because we will be in Maine in June. We plan to attend the fall rally in Goshen. If we still haven't gotten it solved, we might check with you then if you are there.
