Dear MOC Members

All, great site. Have enjoyed reading all of your posts. They are serving to make my pending decision on which 5th wheel to buy more informed - - not easier, just better informed. Am currently negotiating on two 2004 5th wheels - - a Montana 3670 RL and a 34FBR Prairie Schooner (manufactured by Gulf Stream). Both rigs are comparably constructed, with similiar combinations of standard and optional features. The Prairie Schooner runs a little bit more than the Montana, but both are basically the same class of 5th wheel. Does anybody out there want to share an opinion on which one is better? Have a Holiday Rambler Alumascape 30SK Bunkhouse travel trailer now that I'll be trading in. That trailer has been super (absolutely zero problems with it in five years of use), but we've "outgrown" it. Wouldn't mind sticking with Holiday Rambler, but the only dealer close stopped carrying them the year after I bought it - - good thing I never had to have anything repaired on it I guess! My tow vehicle is a 2003 Chevy Silverado LT 2500HD Crew Cab SB 4 x 4, with the Duramax TD and a 3.73 rear end. Chevy says it's 5th wheel towing capacity is 15,4000 - - GCVWR 22,000. Because I have the short bed, I'm looking at a 16K manual sliding hitch - - probably the Reese. The local Montana dealer I'm negotiating with says that with the extended pin on the Montana (and Prairie Schooner for that matter), that I won't need the sliding hitch. He may be right, but I'm inclined to put it in anyway. Any opinions out there on that issue? Glad to be "tuned in" - - hope to hear from you soon, as I need to make my decision within the next 30 days.

DW Miller
