To put things in perspective - Fuel Cost

Check out this web site. http://koa.com/FUELCALCULATOR/
You can use this to compare the cost of a trip this year verses
last year. Sticker shock at the pump really looks bad. I did a comparison for a trip to the beach, this year $55 more one way,
I think I can handle that. Kerry

Anything with KOA is suspicious. They have a vested interest in getting you out on the road.

When I plugged in last years $ per gallon I got a warning that the numbers did not appear to be valid!

It is a nice little calculator but $$ is $$ and the shock is too much for my weakened system. We will definitely be cutting back on how many and how long our trips will be. The frightening thing is that we are probably no where near the end of this sickening process! It's gonna get a lot worse before (or if) it gets better! Enjoy your trip to the beach.

Try putting numbers in there like I did, just to play with it.

Put the price of fuel the first winter we were out and about, $1.50

Put in the price now, sayyyyy, $4.00 for gas, ha, ha, I know, but, just try it.

we get 7 mpg

we want to drive 6000 miles per year

now, THAT is sticker shock!

GULP!!!

and like HamRad pointed out, I got red warning notes all over the place that the numbers were not likely to happen that way.

HUMPPPHHH

already did!

Too bad they don't show the increase in food prices and campground fees as well.

SIGH (If you cannot tell, I am having Tana withdrawal, no Memorial Day camping here, although we are hoping to take the twins 7 miles to the closest State Park in a few weeks for 4 or 5 days, ohhhh, that went up too, now $25.00 per night, electric only, and not even 50 AMP. Got a dump station tho!)

Kerry,
What input values did you use???? I got $50 difference on a 350 mile trip this weekend using $4.59 now versus $2.99 (I can't even remember how much fuel was last year). Just curious.

You can make you own spread sheet if you have excel. You can set it to calculate a simple calculation like that also. I entered 0.00 for the current gas price to show the total cost and it was set up not to even calculate unless it was a reasonable gas price. It’s set up to only calculate for an increase in gas price.

at 2.50 per gallon at 10MPG that would be 250.00 per 1K miles
At 3.00 per gallon that would be 300.00 per 1K miles..thats only 50.00.not going to let that stop me..thats only 50.00
at 3.50 per gallon that would be 350.00 per 1K.thats only 50.00..not going to let that stop me
at 4.00 per gallon that would be 400.00 per 1k.. thats only 50.00...not going to let 50.00 stop me
at 4.50 per gallon that would be 450.00 per 1k...only 50.00//not going to let that stop me
at 5.00 per gallon that would be 500.00 per 1K..not going to let a stinking 50.00 stop me.

Wait a min that trip cost me double what it did not long ago.

In 2005, less that 3 years ago, the average price of Diesel was 2.50 (look it up)
Has your income kept pace in that time.

When it hits 6.00 per gallon..why that's only 100.00 more//won't let a stinking 100.00 stop me????

Yep, just figured it's going to cost us $500 in diesel at current prices just to go from Santa Fe to Colorado Springs to Kansas City. We're going to be taking shorter steps in our trips.

When we started fulltiming in March 2003 with a gasoline-engined truck, we paid $1.25/gallon. We were able to decide to go clear to the other side of the country and the fuel cost was not prohibitive. But the current prices definitely have us staggering a bit and will force us to slow down the number of towing miles per month even more.

Well, I'm on a 4000 mile round trip and at 10 mpg at an average 4.50 it will cost me $1800.00. at $5.00 a gallon it comes out to $2000.00. I'm not going to let $200.00 stop me!!!

But I might have to wait until the first of the month for the retirement checks to catch up with my fuel costs!
