Meds on the Road?

Hopefully not to far from semi-fulltiming, I have a general question. If you ave Meds you take on an on going basis, how or is it a problem getting prescriptions filled when your in different places all the time? Kerry

When we were on our last trip, all my meds needed to be refilled. Since Rite Aid and Walmart are just about everywhere, I took my bottles there. No problems refilling them. I had refills left. Now --- if I didn't have refills left, they would have had to call my Dr.

We get our meds by mail from Medco and Wal-mart. We have not had any trouble. We have them sent to our mail service (Alternative Resources in Sioux Falls, SD) and in turn they send them to us. Been working real well.

When possible we use a three month mail service for ongoing prescription needs. They are mailed to our residence of record and forwarded to us.

For short term meds connected with a current need, we have them filled at WalMart because of their ubiquity and transfer possibilities between stores. An example is my getting a Rx refilled yesterday in Houston. The original Rx was filled at Walmart in another state.

When we travel we just take our prescription bottle that needs to be refilled to a pharmacy and they call and transfer the prescription to them and fill it. It is real easy.

I've live in a lot of places, but never noticed the pharmacies available (I was younger and in better shape then - lol).
I have my Rx's at Rite Aid now. Are they really pretty commonly found in most places? I'd like to keep them there if possible, but am flexible.
Thanks for any inputs.

Problem with Rite Aid in New York State. I tried to get a refill while in up state NY 2 years ago at a Rite Aid store, they refilled it, but told me they could only refill it ONE time, and must by state law cancel the perscription after that for any out of state perscription. Fortunatly I had a Dr. appointment the next month when we got back to get a new perscription. This was just my experience. Not saying Rite Aid is bad, only something to keep in mind, if a state law, than I would think the same for all Pharmacies in NY.

Most pharmacies will transfer prescriptions in from other pharmacies. I've had them transferred from both Rite-Aid and Walgreens to Wal-Mart.

You might try Googling the name of the pharmacy you currently use, find their store finder on their web site and see if there are stores where you intend to travel.

I had the cancel any refills left happen to me in West Virginia. I now need to get a new paper script. My insurance will only do 1 month at a time. Since I only pay $1.00 I can see why.
Rite Aid bought out Echard. They are in all states but 4 I think. I keep calling Harrisburg to get an update.

I had all mine transferred from Elmendorf AFB in Alaska to Wal Mart.. The only prob is with a controlled substance drug. These take about three days when on the road and they have to call my doc. Otherwise, Wal Mart has been fine.

Walmart anywhere works great. Also as a side note, last spring at CVS (FL) and this Fall at Rite Aid (MI) we were stunned to find out that all CVSs - and now all Rite Aids - now take JC Penneys department store card... What corporate merger news did I miss???

We use Walgreens. We can have our rx filled in one state and when refilling in another they can call it up on their computer, no need to call and transfer it. We can also request a refill online and tell them where we will pick it up. Can Walmart call up your rx on their computer like this or do they have to call and transfer?

I have been able to do this transfer at Walgreens. I believe Walmart would do the same thing...

We are on the road seven months out of the year and have been using WalMart for all our prescriptions. They accept our prescription insurance and there is always a WalMart somewhere in the area.

We merely call up the Wal-Mart where we are going to be and give them the prescription number and the Wal-Mart store number where we had it filled. They then call the previous store and transfer all information: prescription, number of pills, the size of the pills, etc., along with all your insurance information (if any). All we do is go in and pick up the prescription.
