I also do not loosen the lug nuts. I check for tightening to 120# on the torque wrench often and prior to trips. I do have a concern if my not loosening the nuts could be a problem, but I guess as long as I continually check the torque every night we stop during a trip, I imagine that if nothing is loose at either the beginning, or at the end of a trip, then everything should be fine???

I agree about not loosening to retorque. The exception would be if I though they may have been overtorqued. Then I'd loosen first but I'd follow the same procedure as if the wheel had been removed: torque initially, then check torque every 50 miles or so until they no longer tighten more.

This Montana has the alloy rims. I had the impression I'd need to check torque more frequently than with the steel rims. So far they've proven to be the same as the steel rims as far as checking the torque. Once the procedure above is complete, I've yet to see them being loose at all. Same as with the steel rims. I'm still not completely sold that they won't loosen so I do check them every 500 miles or so but not every time we go to hit the road. So far, they've not loosened. I'll keep checking every 500 miles or so until I'm convinced it's not necessary.

We have the steel rims, Just completed our pre-trip before leaving Mobile, Al, Last time the torque was checked was Abilene , Tx. Everything is good. We have never had to adjust torque since we did the original loosen, and retorque(for the stated reasons) We do beleive we have verified a slow leak in one of the rims as it is the only tire that will loose air. It was down 10 psi again (OEM valve has been replaced)...That will be item # 26 On the service center repair list.
