Every body here says you haft to go by the numbers. If he goes by GM's tow limits what is the problem? Unless of course you actually looked at the J2708 tow limits. Then you will find they are a joke.

I agree with Tom statement.

All vehicles are made to stop their GVWR not the GCWR.

I would suspect that is why trailers have brakes. I do agree some rigs have better brakes than others but I would have to compare size of brakes, stopping ability of the brakes and how much fade occures. Of course with a lot of the newer rigs exhaust brakes would obviously help the vehicles stopping ability. I guess what I am trying to say is that some brand new rigs even if they are 1/2 ton verse older 3/4 or 1 ton rigs might have better brakes. I know I got a better set of rotors and pads than the stock brake system when I replaced my trucks brakes.

I usually don't take sides with a subject like this one but I will make this suggestion; look at the signatures on this forum. Look at a lot of them and see just how many 1/2 ton trucks you see being used for towing.
