Sewer Hose Boom Removal
New to the group and also new to the TV world. We just purchased a 2008 Montana. The only thing I see so far is the sewer hose boom. Seems to hang down pretty low and appears to.be cumbersome to.use. Anybody ever take it off?

We really liked ours, wish we had one on the 2015. Many folks did not like them and posted removal solutions

We liked ours for a couple of years then ours cracked. Since I wanted to carry more hose, I hung a vinyl fence post under the rig and filled it with hose intending on replacing the boom later. Found that with the boom off I could install a twist on gate valve and clear 90. Liked that setup so well I never went back.

It was more of a novelty when we 1st got the Montana. I removed it and added a gate valve and a clear 90 elbow.

Ours was damaged last year, looked like it caught a piece of tire debris. I have gotten so used to it, I replaced the broken tube. The Valterra EZ Hose Carrier is an exact replacement, just cut off the fitting on one end and installed it in place of the broken tube, and attached the metal handle on the new part. http://www.valterra.com/product/ez-h.../?pcat_id=1266

I thought it was a cool idea when we got our Montana. After using it the first couple of years, I realized it didn't hold enough hose for a lot of the places we camped. It also was an issue when the sewer location was toward the rear of the site. Twisting the boom at that angle was somewhat cumbersome. I ended up removing it and doing what others have done, that is, adding a gate valve. I now store the hose in one of those under-bed sized totes from Home Depot in the basement storage.

Welcome to the forum & greetings from Kentucky!
I can’t speak about the boom hose since I’ve never had one. I can mention that like others I have a gate valve added on the end of the sewer system which I find to be very handy. I’ve noticed over the years that excess waste water will accumulate in the pipes while traveling even after dumping. I presume that it gets trapped in various places in the piping but I notice it after I completely hook up the sewer line and open the gate valve. I used to get a little splash until that was added. I've not had any issues since adding the gate valve. One of the very best mods that I've done. I also use the clear elbow to know when the tank is clean after flushes.

We've not had a problem with ours and have been off the beaten path, so to speak, many times. When I am parked for extended periods or the boom won't allow me to hook to a connection toward the rear of the coach, I pull back the flex protector and connect the hose there at the outlet. I like the boom mainly for at dump stations. It takes the "droop" out of the hose when dumping.

Had the boom but it was not as beneficial as I originally thought it would be so I removed it and like Bill, added the Turbo-Flush gate valve at the end of the outlet and like that much better.

If you do a Search on "sewer boom" (be sure to check the Archived Posts box at least one time) and you will find lots of discussion about the pros/cons of the boom.
Personally, I love my boom. I installed the gate valve at the end of the outlet - yes it is compatible with the boom and is essential regardless of the boom or not - it stops that surprise when you remove the sewer cap. I use a clear connector but it is at the end of the sewer hose, not at the gate valve. The location doesn't affect the purpose - being able to see what is flowing by.
While I did have to shorten the length of the sewer hose to fit is inside the boom, it is long enough for 90% of the locations where I camp. I have a fence post mounted under the frame which holds extra hose for those occasional sites where I need extra hose.
Connecting to a sewer connection located behind the RV outlet is not a problem on my RV. The mounting of the pivot point allows the boom to rotate almost completely to the rear (even with the extra gate valve). But the old world craftsman didn't always mount the pivot point at the same spot along the frame. Sometimes it is mounted forward of the outlet and binds up the hose if you try to go past 90 degrees. It sucks if yours is that way but it just means you have to have a 180 degree turn in the hose (and extra hose?) to get to the park connection.

We had some issues with ours after we added the external valve, so we removed it. Haven't really missed it.

X2. Could only get about 10' of hose in the boom and that was next to never enough. We now carry four of those Camco 10' hoses (two sets)and the fittings on them wouldn't go into the boom anyway. Don't have any worries about weird CGs anymore!

Never found it of any benefit. Removed the hose boo, installed a gate valve with cap. Works fine and less screwing around.

I like my boom- have a 10 ft in the boom and carry extensions for use when longer is desired.

Used it for about one year just to give it a chance. It was usable but a pain in the butt.Just one of those things that was there because other manufacturers had them with no thought as to how practicable they might be.

Your view on the boom will vary on how you use your RV. If you do a lot of boondocking, it is great. Swing the boom out, dump, put it back. If you mainly live in RV parks, it may not be as useful because of placement. 80% of the time we are dumping as we return home or leave the campground. Out west we are blessed with lots of public land where you can camp for free. So, depending on how you use your rig, your mileage may vary.
