Towing Capacity of Ford F350

We are interested in purchasing a 3400RL or 3685FL. We have looked at several 5ers and are confused about the towing capacity of our tow vehicle which is a 2002 Ford F350 SB SRW 7.3L turbo diesel equipped with a towing package. We were told by one dealer that we should stay below 11,000 lb dry weight. After reading this forum, it appears that people are pulling the 5ers listed above with similar trucks to ours. Can anyone offer any words of wisdom?

Your truck should handle any of the Montanas without problem. There are a lot of us in this forum doing just that. Good luck, hope you enjoy your Montana. Those are both beautiful models.

I would say you have plenty of truck, We just bought a 3685FL and in Jan pulled it from Kansas to Colorado with our 97 Ford F250 HD 460 Auto w/extra HD trans cooler fully loaded truck and trailer on the scale was 20,000 lbs. but not a wimper from the truck 65-70 all the way ant the truck sits well not squated in the back. so go and travel.

We have an F350 7.3L engine and we are pulling a 3400RL. It so far has not had any problems with the towing. We have to keep reminding ourselves that it is back there so we don't cut the corners too sharp.

We are also pulling a 2003 3655FL Montana with a 1999 Ford F350 Diesel SRW and have no problems with it. The book calls for up into the 13,000 lbs towing weight and the hitch weight over 3000 lbs. We did add a Western Diesel chip and gages to monitor the transmission temp and the turbo charger. The chip increased the horsepower and tightens up the shift changes in the transmission. We also added an electronic braking devise from western diesel that keeps the trailer at bay going down long hills simular to a jake brake would do. Finally, last year we added air bags to the rear of the truck to soften the bouncing action that occurs when you are on concrete interstates. Right now we have around 54,000 on the truck and it pulls our Montana great. The fuel milage is 13-14 at 65 mph with the RV behind it. and has never used any oil between changes. I do add an additive called SFR in the engine (as all of my cars) that cuts down the wear. It also warrants the engine to 200,000 miles. I am a dealer for the products.
