Charging 6 volt batteries

Our 2010 - 3150 RL came with 2 - 6 volt batteries. Is it safe to charge the 6 volt batteries with a 12 volt charger, or do I have to get a 6 volt charger?

Appreciate your input.

Thank you.

David

Those 6-volt batteries should be connected in series (the negative post on one to the positive post on the other). This gives you the 12 volts needed for the rig. There should be no problem charging with a 12-volt source as long as the batteries are connected in series. I see no reason why they wouldn't be since you need 12 volts for the rig.

As usual, Oz is right on. Batteries are hooked up to provide 12 volts, therefore 12 volts is what you charge them with. If however, you need to charge only one for some reason, you will need to either stick another battery in line to bring it up to 12 volts, or use a 6 volt charger. Many of the older chargers had settings for both 6 and 12 volts, but I'm not sure about newer ones.
