If it were me, in your situation I'd pull into the rest area, select a site near one end or as quiet as possible and open it up and do my thing. If the site is pretty narrow and you don't want to open slides on both sides, then lock out all but the main slide and sit on the couch or chair, whichever you have in that slide. If you have a generator and want to watch tv, put up the antenna. You can see the tv without putting out the entertainment slide and you can control it with the remote. Or, if room, just open all the slides.

If you open slides be sure the rig is pretty close to level. You sure don't want to damage the slide mechanisms by the shifting of weight because the rig is way off level.

Good luck with your trip. We also try to keep our days under 300 miles, preferring 200 to 250 or even less when we can. Start late, stop early, take lots of breaks, in other words!

Msjan, you didn't say if you do some of the driving or not. Depending on state rules, he could nap in the trailer bed while going down the road, IF you are driveing. Here in Oregon, the state law is......in a fifth wheel only, someone CAN ride in the trailer, IF there is an exit available (bedroom window on the 3400) AND there is a way to communicate with the driver (two way radios). So, depending on state laws, and if you switch drivers, there is "napping options". Not for me, the DW absolutely refuses to drive anything bigger than her car. But, that's OK, lots of rest stops. We try not to do much over 300 miles a day anyway.
More states disallow riding in the trailer than allow it. I wouldn't take a chance.

As far as the suggestion that I drive and my husband sleeps in the 5er, I guess the most polite answer from my hubby is "when pigs fly"!!!
