Dave,

That's funny! Wonder where they got all those fake birds? I'll bet there are tons of folks reporting stolen or missing plastic flamingos!

Got to watch that "Bird Flue".

Dennis

Dennis, our church back home had some crazy ladies. When it came time for a fund raising they used a form of extortion. They had the "Bird Squad" go out and place two dozen of those flamingos in someones yard, usually the biggest house on the block. Then they left notes on everybody's house on that block asking for donations and mentioning that if they didn't give that they might end up with dozens of birds in their yard. It worked famously and they always hit their goal. They had gotten them from some place that went out of business for two hundred dollars. That includes a gross of birds and 600 sets of legs. We filled an eight by ten shed to the rafters for storage. I miss those crazy ladies... Dave

LOL, isn't that the point? P.S. I just figured it out, it wasn't the bird flu, they ate all of our avatars, serves them right. . Now somebody from Forumco has to cut them out of the birds.... Dave

Our neighborhood association does the pink flamingo thing here to raise money! You can pay to have them put in someone's yard and then the homeowner has to pay to get them removed but they have to stay for at least five days! It's quite a good money raiser for scholarships the association give away each year! Besides paying to have them put in someone's yard and to have them removed from your yard, the neighbors can pay so they aren't put in their yards also-- at least for the week following they are in your yard anyway! Then after that- it's up to you to keep them away! They say those dumb birds really make a mess around the yard if you have the privelege to have them in yours!

Hey those things are now collector's items. The last company manufacturing them discontinued them last year.

There is a hardware store in Palm Bay, FL. that has someone assigned to take care of their flock of Pink Flamingos (plastic of course). On cold days they all have scarfs and a campfire, in the sun they have beach towels and sunglasses, etc. Would drive by every day or so just to see what the birds were up to. So did a lot of us.
