Bedroom a/c

Our Montana was built for Montana (the state), which was where we bought it, and has all the cold weather needs. We have the 10th Anniversary (340rlq) Big Sky.

We live in CA (for now) and need a second A/C unit for the bedroom.

A search in Amazon.com tells us there are a variety of units and prices within the units. Our unit appears to be prewired.

If anyone has already purchased and installed said A/C, will you pass on your knowledge?

I installed the bedroom A/C myself. Get a low profile unit for clearance. Get a unit with the controls located in the inside housing. Running a wire to a new thermostat is for me a waste of effort. We use our front A/C when it is really hot and we need to cool the whole trailer down. The front one runs full blast until we don't need it anymore. No need for a thermostat for that. I installed a MACH 8 in my old 5th wheel two years ago and it sounded like there was a Cessna on the roof from the exchanger fan. That is a common problem for the MACH.
13.5BTU would be sufficient. I did not connect the front unit to the ducting. I blocked off the entire plenum area between the ceiling and roof during the install.

I had a 13.5 k low profile air conditioner installed by Camping World. Typically we only use it when we first arrive at a new destination after a long drive on a hot day. Running both units til bedtime cools the trailer enough that we shut off the bedroom unit before going to bed and never start it again at that location. Even in really hot weather. But we are only 34’.
Ours is a stand alone unit not connected to the wall thermostat.

When we added the third AC to our rig the thermostat cable and the electrical connections were already in the ceiling and the other end of the thermostat cable was behind the fan control when I took it off. I used a low profile Dometic just to make sure the cable etc was compatible, but it should work with any unit.

Installed the 13.5Btu low profile Dometic Penguin myself on the HC. This has the cotrols built into the inside air box. I also added the 5000Btu heat strip. This a/c works very well and even non-ducted will do a good job of cooling the living area as well since cool air 'falls'.

If your 5er is pre wired, super simple job. If not, you need to provide a dedicated 20 amp service
