We had a similar experience trying to buy our rig in AZ, CA and CO. Altho this was 5 years ago, we found dealers that knew very little about their product, dealers that told us we did not know what we wanted in a fifth wheel, dealers that just plain lied to us. Recently noticed that several of those dealers are no longer in business or no longer sell Keystone products. We found only one dealer in the three states we would ever consider; Centennial in Grand Junction. Orangewood in Phoenix was not bad either. We bought in Indiana, near Chicago. We have never had to return to that dealer because we have not had much trouble with the rig and because we have had good service experience at several CW dealers from coast to coast. I know that most RVs are built in the Midwest and it costs something to get them to the Southwest, but certainly not the difference in price we found. OTD price there was more than $5000 under the best price we found in the Southwest. I agree that Pete's in Indiana is one of the good guys.

We have never been a full time Rv salesperson although Helen and I worked many Rv shows for various dealers selling their brand Rv's. A good RV sales person knows the product this is how the salesperson makes a living. A salesperson who does not know the product will not last long in the business nor would the dealer want that person representing the dealership. The most uninformed in the purchase of a RV is the buyer .The vast majority of buyers do not know the product and have not done any homework.

That is the dynamic you HAVE to change!! Do your research and go into the deal knowing EXACTLY what you want and spec it to the dealers! You have to make it a commodity bid. Lowest bidder wins and you have to prove to the dealers you are on top of the game and in charge! Never buy from someone just because you like them. Buy because they have the best price period

Lowest bottom line! I don't care if they have a $10,000 PDI and $2000 document fee ~~ whatever the lowest cost out the door!

We always set bids out across the country on the Rv we wanted stating on the bid we were only interested in the "last best offer"Typically if we sent out 15 bids we would get maybe 6 or 8 back.

Maybe I shouldn’t call it a bid so much as a negotiation as I never accept their first offer and I won’t hesitate to let them know they are above another dealer. But I do make sure they understand I am a serious buyer
