bed clearance

Hi. How many inches is safe distance from top of bed to rv needed?
2012 3402rl. 2015 Silverado crew cab 8'bed SRW.

Hint - I've about 5" to the rail for my Softopper cap and the plastic end piece used to secure the tailgate flap. Went over a good sized hump at a propane dealer in Flagstaff and cracked the plastic thing - but didn't leave a mark on the underside of the Monty. You need that 6" for the odd sidewalk or railroad hump.

I have 8 1/2" from the top of the Trux cover rail to the bottom of the overhang. Everything is level.

I am about 7.5 or a little more depending on where I measure and how much air I have in my bags.
