Which truck do you pull with?

2017 ram dually, Longhorn aisin, auto level, 4;10s, tow over 31000 lbs. we pull a 3610 at 13000 loaded. Out here in the west lots of mountains. Pulled over colorado of 13000 feet. Any speed we want the truck pulls easily. The eb is wonderful. Love our truck..

We just purchased a 2021 GMC 2500HD, SLT. We are going back to a 5th wheel. Over the years we have always had either 2500HD's, 3500HD's, 4500HD, single rear on all the 2500HD, of course, the 3500HD's were all dually's, the 4500HD was also a dually.

At one point we even had a 2006 Freightliner, it was awesome, everything was air-ride, Cab, suspension, etc. We also towed a Chevy HHR behind the some other brand.

Keep in mind when buying a truck, most trucks (Diesel) will the the 5th wheel, stopping is the issue in most cases.

You will find there are many opinions on which Truck a person should buy! Do the research.

Excellent choice on the Truck. I must admit, I only buy GM Trucks/Cars.

I am still using my ole dodge. I have been searching for a new truck, because I wanted a DRW. I decided my truck still runs good and I'm happy with the power. Made the conversion

What's really interesting to me is how each brand has a different "favorite":

Chevy/GMC, 2500 is most popular by far
RAM/ Dodge, 3500 DRW most popular by far
Fords, 3500 SRW is most popular, again by far

Chevy guys are the most risk taking, Ford guys live a little on the edge, and RAM guys don't like any risk at all?

... the thing I really appreciate is how capable modern diesel pickups are. As the old song says "love the one you're with". LOL

I’m just curious. I’ve read a lot on the various threads here warning about getting cited for exceeding the Cargo capacity, or rated pin weight of our trucks, or lawsuits over exceeding the capacity of a truck involved in an accident, but does anyone in here have any personal, direct experience with this, besides reading about it somewhere? I have quite a few years of towing under my belt, and have never been stopped by the cops and even asked about weight, let alone had my rig weighed. People I know who run hotshot rigs tell me the only thing they ever get checked on at the weigh stations is GCVWR, but then that is second-hand information too. Anyone?

One thing I have noticed driving across America are the regional and professional preferences for truck brands. I notice contractors tend toward Fords, Farmers and ranchers lean towards Rams, and the oil-field workers seem to prefer GM’s. I see a pretty even mix at RV parks and on the highway pulling RVs.

I think that the farmers and ranchers are very regional. Around here, it's a bigger percentage for Ford for farmers and ranchers. I think that Ram was more popular with farmers when they could still get a manual transmission in them. The Ram was the last to lose the manuals...

Trucks are a personal choice, I only buy GM. You will find there are different strokes for different folks. I try very hard not to be one who is always saying you need more truck. I'm also an retired Truck driver, I have driven, Freightliners, Kenworths. I do know what is needed for my use, weight is a key issue. However there is over kill on Trucks. I have owned 6 or 7 Chevy HD 1 ton trucks with dual rear wheels, great trucks. Trucks of today have plenty of power to pull most 5th wheels. Stopping the load is the key. Those who are trained in driving Trucks, have very few issues, in towing heavy loads. With today's options of disk brakes on many 5th wheels, the stopping issues is much better.

At one time we owned a Cambridge, which was one of the heaviest 5th wheels we have owned, Mobile Suites (custom built) was the heaviest we have owned. I will say the Cambridge was one of the best we every purchased, Cambridge was in the top two. Mobile Suites was awesome.

Trucks are a personal issue, very simple, today we know close to what the 5th wheels weight is. We also know what the 5th wheels dry weight is. Knowing what is in all those storage area's, is also a key. We never travel with full holding tanks, all are empty, except a few gallons of water to flush the commodes. I never liked putting out a slide or two just to use the commodes. If one does the research you will find the 3/4 tons vs the 1 ton trucks are very close as for as pin weight.

I try very hard not to tell you which is best, really a personal choice. Good luck.

Trucks are a personal choice but very few people ever compare so they never know if their truck is the best one for them or not.
