UPDATE: Missing Family of MOC Member Safe

We don't have details of the situation yet, but have been assured by my sister that the family is safe and are on the way home. Thanks to all for your concern and prayers.

[s]We’re looking for help! Our nephew, Chris Harris, age 11, is late returning from a camping trip with his friend’s family. They were in the habit of checking in by phone daily for the past week and haven’t been heard from for 48 hours. Calls to their cell phones go unanswered. They were due home Friday afternoon, July 22, 2011 in Redding CA. Their last known location was late Friday morning at a campground at Pyramid Lake near the I-5 Grapevine. The family is known to be traveling in a 1998 bronze Ford van (Aerostar?), license number 4KLB503. We’re lold there is peeling paint on the back of the vehicle. The people traveling with Chris are Taz and Kari Taflinger along with their children, Brandon (11) and Camille (7). The CHP and Redding Police Department are actively looking for the vehicle and have promised to place an alert on the highway message boards. This is not an Amber Alert, as there is no indication of abduction at this time. Both families are very worried and would appreciate your eyes on the road, as well as your prayers. We will update as we get further information. Thank you![/s]

Don,
If they have cell phones can't you get the authorities to "ping" the phones. That would give them an idea of where they are. And ALL cell phones now have GPS locators on them. So they should be able to find them. I think this works even if the phones are off. Of course they do have to be in range of a cell tower. But who knows by now they are probably able to use a satellite to find the phone even if it was off and out of range of a tower. Just a thought and I have no idea how any of this kind of stuff is done.

Good luck and please keep us updated. Dennis and Mary Kay

I just thought I would let you know that the families and children have been found, per Claudia via Facebook. I am sure once they have settled down and have more facts she will report in.

I am only reporting here as it has been several hours and I know all the MOCers are concerned and praying for the families.

Here is her FULL post on the Montana RV Owners Group at Facebook:

Chris and the family he's traveling with have been located! We don't know the details, but everyone is safe! Thank you all so much for your prayers and well wishes! :-)

"CHRIS HAS CALLED US AND I DONT KNOW WHO IS CRYING MORE>>>>>I WILL UPDATE WHEN I KNOW THE CIRCUMSTANCES. Redding PD has talked with Chris and the parents of his friend Brandon and they are all safe traveling north on I-5. Thanks for all your help, well wishes and prayers. All Authorities will be standing down and I am going to post a pic of everyone when they arrive home."
