Here is a interesting chart http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/dnav/pet/hist/rrunyhd.htm
That is F.O.B New york..
Note that the price of a gal on regular unleaded in our part of Ohio is averaging 3.00 per gallon. The Fed tax is 18.4 and the state tax is 28 cents

Boy am I sorry I started this topic. Just kidding. There certainly are a number of thoughts, solutions and alternatives. But it really does come back to the basic economics of supply and demand. No matter how much we conserve, the supply will be gobled up by some other country.
I guess the solution is to increase our own production and not export it out of the U.S. and than go fishing. Not necessarily in that order.

Cheers.
PS- Thanks for catching the error. Yes I would drive a ways for a dollor difference.

Got a real shock here in Mobil, AL today. I have been filling up whenever I get down to 3/4's and find lowest price. Filled up Thursday at station just 3 blks from Shady Acres for 3.469. Cheapest in Mobil. Today same station was 3.499 this morning and was going to fill up when we came back from driving today. It is now $3.559. That's less than 6 hrs. I have always told people we will travel as long as the health and money hold up. Health is fine.
Some interesting points:
Bought the Dodge April, 2004 and diesel became more expensive than gasoline October, 2004.
Our largest import countries of oil are in order: Canada, Saudia Arabia, Venezualea(sp), and Mexico.
Gas cost $1.399 in 2001.
When CAFE standards or safety standards are discussed by the government the Japanese hire an engineer while the American Car Manufacturers hire 10 lawyer/lobbyest.
The dividends on my Exxon-Mobile stock wouldn't buy enough diesel to get back to the stick home.
Time to buy bikes, but how do we carry the golf clubs on a bike. Might be better to start renting clubs.
Going to have to start driving under 60 and buy more books on CD's.
Oh well, gives us something to discuss besides the weather which by the way is great here in Mobile. Can't say the same for Northern Wisconsin.
Drive safely and keep all eight on the pavement.

Anyone use this site to help out?
http://www.motortrend.com/gas_prices
For what its worth, government can reduce the price at the pump if they'd reduce the amount of taxes they take. Yep, the producers make a profit but they take the risk, government does NOTHING. The feds take almost $0.20 a gallon and the states take the following: http://www.gaspricewatch.com/usgastaxes.asp (look at all the hidden additional fees - testing of Diesel fuel fee in New York state?). That amounts to over $0.50 cents a gallon in New York for example!

John,
Just a tid bit on Chevron. My father was a recent college grad during WWII. He was a very ill young man and although most able bodies were supporting the war effort, he was looking for work in a job enviornment starving for employees. Chevron was the only company willing to hire him because of his health issues. He retired after almost 50 years.....his only job...one of six economists in the company at the time. He served his company well and the company provided us a very nice, middle class life.
Ken
PS. Thank you for your service to our country. You are a true hero....and so was my dad.

We are just down the road in Davenport, Fl... Exit 58& I-4//Diesel 3.639 today. That would be @145.00 per tank....Couple of days ago it was 3.359 that would be @134.00 per tank;;Hey that's only 11.00 a tank more..won't let that stop me.Couple of more days and it will be 4.00 per gal that would be 160.00 per tank, hey thats only another 15.00 per tank not going to let a stinking 15.00 slow me down//and so it goes on and on.When we head home to Ohio we will have 1200 miles at @ 10MPG Might cost 500/600 to get home.., cost us 405.00 to get down here..Hey.. thats only 100 maybe 200.00 more per trip......no problem... a small price to pay... won't slow us down.We don't care what fuel cost. I know we will drive faster so we will get there faster.

I guess it's less movin about time, and enjoying the area you picked to camp at.
It looks like those Membership camp grounds will start to do more business.

Rich, you got the right attitude!! Go as far as we can then park and wait till the next check comes in! LOL , us Americans are a tough breed, we wont let it get us down. Shucks, I'm going on 67 yrs old and I can remember 23 to 29 cent a gallon gas. I budget my fuel then at $10.00 "per week" fill up and it took 1/4 of my weeks pay. I made it back then, and only ran out of fuel on a saturday night date with Nancy, hehehe!

I could start eating more macaroni and cheese, only that's going through the roof, too...
So....... Where do we cut back at in our budgets? It sure can't be groceries. Already had to do that...
As a CNN analyst recently stated in an article on the economy: "People will just have to continue to budget in increases." WOW....... Who would have guessed the solution would have been that simple???
What an ignorant, moronic statement to make.
