The long ride
From Pensacoal to Mayport, FL almost 400 miles, but it is all easy Interstate. One concern was my fuel. I left Pensacola with a little over a quarter of a tank. I was expecting to find a truck stop as soon as I got on I-10, but NO. I finally pulled in after 100 miles to a Ma-pop station that had diesel, but I paid the $2.499 price.
The truck stop was another 30 miles down the road, but there were not signs until close in. So, if you are traveling East on I-10 via Pensacola, fill up before you get to the other side or do what I did - search for a station and get lucky.
Well, maybe I fell asleep and missed a statio or two!!!!!

Wayne, How long you staying at Mayport? We will be there this Wed, probably late afternoon 5-6 ish. Sure would like to meet you. See if you can reserve us a great site, need FHU with a clear view of the southern sky......Thanks

I usually carry a book with me called “The Next Exit.” It really is handy to look ahead and find places like that when it’s needed. I got it at a Cracker Barrel store.

Following up on what Bill-N-Donna stated, we won't travel without the Next Exit Book. It is one handy reference. My navigator, DW, swears by it.

Same here with "The Next Exit", we got caught in the no fuel zone also on the way across in March. We came out of Alabama on 231 and figured we would fuel up on I-10. We hit I-10 with less that a quarter tank at exit 130. We got off at exit 174 at the CG we were staying at for the night. The fuel at the BP there at the CG was 30 cents higher than in Bama. So we unhooked and headed east to exit 181 where there was a WalMart, the fuel was still higher than Bama but only by 8 cents. That area of I-10 seems to be a fuel free zone... Dave

We carry the next exit book too. Sometime it is not always right. When we still had the Montana and coming up from AZ, we were low on fuel. Stopped exit it said was diesel and no station there. We drove on a side road looking further for it and found it was not there. We had to turn that Montana around on that little black top road. We found diesel back on the highway before we ran out but was running on fumes. Now have a 55 gal tank!
Still use the next exit book because it is more right than wrong.

I do wonder though, I sometimes think that the GPS units will replace that book somewhat. It is nice to type in a destination for gas station and it will tell you nearly every one that is on your route. I still carry the book though!
