General tires

Our montana came with general grabber tires 16 inch. I have never had general tires before. I would like to hear pros and cons from people familiar with them. Thank You Jack

I don't immediately remember the name of the tires on my Monty, but they may just be Generals. After over 10,000 miles they do not show signs of unexpected wear or tread surface distortions. General tires are made by Continental tires who also makes Uniroyals and other brands as well. Some Factory information may be gleaned from their website.

Wagonmaster,
I have General grabbers on the monty with about 30,000 miles on them and no problems except a nail or screw now and then. (can't blame the tires)
I also had 7 on my Ford truck same size and tread. I had no problem with them either in 61,000 miles. I had them replaced recently with Michelin tires but only because I like Michelins. The tires still had tread but we are leaving on 20-25,000 mile trip and didn't want to change them on the road.

I've had Generals on cars and trucks and never had any problem with them. They balanced well and wore well. Those are my two major criteria. I wouldn't hesitate to use General tires on our Montana or the truck.

I grew up with General tires. My Father worked for Seattle Transit for 48 years. They used Generals on ALL their Buses, Service Trucks and Supervisor District Cars. Metro took over in 1973 and continued the same practice. Dad got them at a discount thru them and ran them on our cars. As soon as I got my first car, he changed the tires to Gens. I don't recall anything other than probs with nails in all those years. He even got the company he worked for in his later years to change to General when they were having tire probs on their fleet of 20+ Security cars. He did allow me to buy a set of Coopers for my car after he retired. LOL!

General tires are "generally" good (no pun intended)tires. However, they are susceptible to sidewall breakdowns just like other tires. Be sure you keep them properly inflated to the "Cold PSI" pressure shown on the sidewalls. I've met a lot of RVers whose tires broke down, General, Firestone, Bridgestone, Goodyear, etc., due to improper tire pressures. When your tires are under pressured, you put a lot of stress on the sidewalls. Be informed.
