No suburban water heater indicator light.

2003 Montana 3670RL. Last weekend our Suburban water heater was working for one day. On day two I saw the red light was on for at least 5 minutes. I turned off the switch, waited a few minutes and turned it back on. Now there is no light and no sounds from the water heater. Can anybody steer me where to look for the problem? I don't know if it would heat up with electric because we never tried it that way. Control board maybe?

I believe the red light is only illuminated when the gas burner is actually in use. Once the water in the heater is hot enough to satisfy the thermostat the burner shuts off and the red indicator light goes out. The next time the thermostat calls for heat the light will illuminate as the burner fires.

Not exactly Jim. The red light in the rocker switch illuminates when the switch is turned on and 12V is flowing to the water heater (i.e. it is turned ON). The red LED just to the right of the rocker switch illuminates while the WH is trying to ignite the propane burner. Once the burner lights, the LED goes out. The WH will make three tries to light before giving up and leaving the LED lit.

If the rocker switch is not illuminated I would check for 12V current to it. If the rocker is lit and the LED is not, then the WH should be running. I am at a loss to explain what is wrong if it isn't working.

We leave both of ours on 24/7 as a backup to one another, which allows them both to cycle without just sitting until needed.

That short term memory loss can be rectified with another RV

I would troubleshoot your issue by verifying you have 12 volts down to the thermostat with the inside switch turned on. Thermostat located outside on the WH .. If you don’t have 12 volts there then check the WH ignitor board to verify incoming 12 volts DC..

If you do have 12 volts at the WH ignitor board and at the WH thermostat but WH is not firing then most likely the ignitor board has failed

This is easy to troubleshoot and. Repair if you have a simple multimeter and some basic skills
