Question AC Repair/Replace

I have a Montana 3813MS that we are having trouble with one of the rooftop units. The only manual I have is for an Airxcel for 48000 heat pumps. There are no manuals to tell me the brand of AC Unit. Toward the end of last summer the AC stopped cooling. Also, the one time we tried to use the heat pump because we ran out of propane, the heat pump would not heat the trailer. I would like to replace the unit, but I don't know what to buy. Is the only way I can find out is to climb up onto the roof?

Apparently you have a 2021 model according to your profile. I am not sure if Montana was using the Coleman units then or not. Maybe another 2021 owner will know.

But if the AC doesn't work, neither will the heat pump. The heat pump is simply running the AC backwards by capturing the heat from the compressor rather than the cool air.

The easiest way for me is to get on the roof and pull off the cover. Then you can capture all of the tags and numbers and start looking them up.

Thanks. I was trying to avoid going up on the roof, but it appears there is no other choice.

I have a 2019 3130re.
This is my front unit. I took pictures of the numbers while installing a SoftStartRV.
I'm don't know if the rear unit is different. The front is AC the rear is a heat pump.
I haven't taken the cover off the rear one to see.

It's likely a Dometic and yes, you have to remove the cover to find the nomenclature. While you're up there, look for loose or corroded electric terminals as it might be an easy fix. Someone also told me to check the sensor on the cooling fins.

Mine did that last summer, it leaked all the juice out. Replaced it with a new unit, cost about 1400$ for a new one.

And remove the cover carefully. I replaced a broken cover for a friend who was not physically able to climb on his roof. When I pulled the cover off, a swarm of wasp came flying out from a nest within. No place to go, at least not quickly. Friend tossed up a can of wasp spray and I somehow managed to kill them all without getting stung. Funny now, not then.

I think Dometic has a 2 yr warranty. It doesn't hurt to contact them. My ac/heatpump quit cooling and I contacted Dometic even though my unit was 2 months out of warranty and Dometic replaced it.

I needed info from my A/C and I was able to get it by taking off the inside cover. Found a tag with the S/N and some other info too inside.

We have a 2021 Montana CK 3231, manufactured early 2021 with three Coleman AC’s. The rear unit is a heat pump. Ours has worked fine, sorry that your having a problem with yours. Your unit is a 2021, are you still under warranty? If so have your dealer fix it.
Safe travels Steve

I am just curious, if you have a new unit why didn’t your dealer fix or replace under warranty. If you have the AirExcel manual you have the Coleman AC. There are some things to know about the heat pump portion (which likely isn’t working if the AC isn’t). First, the heat pump only works when it is within 3 degrees of the set point. So, if you set it at 72 and it’s 65 in the trailer, the heat pump won’t start until it’s 69 inside. Second, when on gas heat and fan on auto, the heat pump fan will run to keep air moving inside. Best of luck getting your unit working. We have two of the Coleman units on our 2021 3230CK and they work great.
