Cables Replaced

Just had my Valtera cables replaced with Rods. I thought the Valtera cables were an improvement over the Bristol but the rods are truly a 1 finger operation. I had the gray tank handle drilled through the frame on the driver side so that is a straight pull and had the black tank handle drilled through the frame on the door side so as to have a straight pull also. You get a much more positive open and closed valve with the rods. I had to have the handles installed outside of the convenience center and the black tank handle on the opposite side but is well worth it. Hope this last till I retire from rving.

Where do you go to have it done and how much does it cost?

Not difficult if you are handy. I did the same thing myself two years ago, but with two black tanks and two gray. Posted exactly how I did it, should be somewhere in Search. Dropped the underbelly, did minor reroute of the plumbing, using heavy duty rubber couplings from Home Depot. l ended up with three pulls on DS, one on the ODS, all thru the frame, and none in the convenience center. Not counting materials and four new valve costs, took me 5 hours, so figure $500+ installation plus parts. Two plus years later, can still open with one finger, and if I have to ever replace a valve, will be easy with the couplings that are in place.

It's your fault Dennis that I spend as much as I do on this rv. It's like a show and tell when I see what you have done. I think it's a disease. Merry Christmas.

The reason the Valterra cable valves do not work correctly is that are NEVER installed correctly. I replaced all my bristle valves with Valterra several years ago and they work great.

-The cables MUST be anchored along there path. (they cant just flop in the breeze)
-They MUST be anchored securely at both ends within 6" of the valve or handle.
-There can not be any short 180 degree turns (less than 24" in dia)
-The cables MUST be straight for 6" from the handle and the valve itself.
-You have to have the shortest length possible.(meaning, you can not use a stock 72" cable if only 60" is needed). You MUST cut the cables to the length needed.

If they are installed correctly they work great.
Do not trust some young kid at a dealer that has only been fiddling with campers for a month to install them correctly.!!!
