Chronic Slide Alignment Problem

New owner. First time. When arrived to pick-up new unit (2004 2955RL) slide was not aligned. Dealer aligned. On first trip broke pinion gear on front rack and pinion. Keystone warrantied. Continued to experience alignment problems, but if one of us pushed the front end of the slide while the other depressed the button, we could make it. Now the front rack and pinion is gone again. Local shops have a 3 week waiting list for an appointment and are quoting a 3 week turn around. Suspect there is a root, and the gear work is only addressing a symptom. Any info welcomed. Similar experiences? Advice?

Lubrication of the two bushings at each end of the rod that rotates the pinion gears is very important. If one bushing binds the slide goes out of alignment and if bad enough bolts break. Mine came from the dealer with no lube whatsoever. Some folks use a spray, I keep mine saturated with oil.

Gruffy, do you use 30w motor oil or something similar or some other kind of oil? I haven't lubed this, hadn't noticed it, so need to take a look. Thanks.

I keep a litte $2 pump oil can in the tool box. Whenever I buy oil, 10-30 80-90 whatever, I drain the containers into it when they are just about empty. Then just squirt it on, trying to get it between the moveing pieces. Even do the steps every year.

Thanks. Good idea on putting the leftovers in the oil can.
