KOA Watkins Glen, NY?

We are looking at taking a long weekend later this month to give us a chance to see how the canine members of the family deal with camping and to check out some of the New York State wineries. The KOA in Watkins Glen has decent reviews on the RV PArk Reviews site (and has available pull thru sites), but has anyone out there been there?

Thanks!
Kathie

Yep. One of our favorite parks especially in October. Pricey but you get what you pay for. It has an indoor hot tub and pool (was told by another KOA owner 1 Million $) and they were supposed to put in another pool outdoors. Have not been there this year yet.

The A sites and F sites are all pull thru sites - very easy to get in and out. Many have concrete patios and some have fire rings built into the patio. Some have swings and patio lights. These are the $$$$ sites. The B pull thru's are much too short for our rigs. You will fit on the B backin sites. They are nice and not hard to maneuver. You can probably fit on the D pull thru ones but they are the older part of the campground with basic patio pads and a fire ring.

The campground is about 10 minutes from the town of Watkins Glen. You are very close to the race track. For about $20, you can drive your vehicle on the track, 3 laps following a pace truck. Very cool but you must check the days and times that they do this. You can also visit Watkins Glen state park and walk the glen. We go down the glen and not up!!!!

Lots of wineries in the area up both sides of the lake. Also, up in Penn Yan is the Windmill Market open only on Saturdays. Nice drive and a neat place to visit. Not much in the line of diners in the area. You would have to go to Corning to get a selection.

Hope this helps.

Please let us know how it goes. We will be up there in September. Good leads on exceptional wineries also appreciated

So, we got back today after spending three nights at the KOA. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that it's only 2 and a half hours from home! Bullroc3 is right on the money! We were in the F section -- site was easy to get in and out of - a little un-level side to side (boards fixed it) We had a glider, hanging plant and built in fire pit. The area is great - absolutely gorgeous scenery. We like wine, but Randy and I are really beer people. So imagine our delight at discovering that not only is there a wine trail, there's a beer trail! We did four breweries each day and had a really good time - we liked the brews at 7 of the 8 places we went! (So unfortunately I can't give you any info on wines) Also did the Thunder Road drive at the racetrack -- it was so worth the $25! We have a dash cam, so we got the entire thing and now have a movie of the adventure. We will definitely be going back! (There are 47 breweries on the map -- we have a ways to go!)

Glad you enjoyed it, Randy. Been thinking about stopping there on our way back from the Fall Rally. Did that last year. See you at the rally. Plans are to be passing through your area on Sunday, September 22, on the way to Goshen.
