New Tow Vehicle?

We are towing a 2004 3280RL with a 2003 GMC 2500HD extended cab short bed. Would a long bed be better? We're thinking about springs, or maybe a new dual wheel 3500 (his idea). We're a little nervous about the pin weight with the 5'r loaded. So far it's worked very well but we plan a very long trip this summer. What brand, kind of tires are recommended by experienced folks if we keep the 2003 GMC?
