slide issue diagnosed

We took our new Monty out for it's first camping trip last weekend after buying it new in April. The fridge could not keep up (the weather was warm, but not stifling) and the ice cream was soft. The slide with the dinette and recliners made a lot of noise going out and would stop several times on its own.

We took the trailer to a dealership and the slide problem is caused by the motor drawing too much power and then it shuts itself off. After a few seconds it resets the breaker (you can actually hear the click) and you can run it again. They are going to order a new motor and then we will bring the trailer in and have it installed. They have seen this problem before.

The fridge has trouble keeping up in warm weather and they suggested just cranking it up to four or five (five being the highest) and monitor it.

I asked about the rear jacks which seem to be awfully low, and they said it's not a problem since they are so close to the wheels.

We also asked about the door maybe blowing around in the wind (nothing to hold it open) but they said that is usually not a problem, and some people have had something installed to hold the door open. So we will just monitor that as well.

I just wanted to share this in case anyone else had this slide issue or was questioning the other stuff.

We are now considering slide top covers. We got a price from them on that.

Best way we found to secure door. Tried those 90 degree door holders, no luck when a strong gust hits they break

Will your door open further, like right against the trailer?

Seriously NO but it doesn't bang against the side of the trailer either. On my rig when the awning is out, the awning arm prevents the door from being fully open

When we had a similar slide issue on our 2010 the factory service center diagnosed it as being the hole for the slide being too small. They removed the slide, cut the hole bigger and then no problem. The pump is drawing too much electricty and causing the resetable breaker to pop, but the question is: Is there a good reason why it's doing that or is the pump simply bad?

The tech indicated that the motor is at fault. He said he has seen this before.

Many of us over the years have had the slide breaker tripping/resetting issue. And we have always solved it by replacing that breaker with a higher amp breaker, as suggested by Keystone.

The reason the tech figured the motor was at fault is because the motor was making a lot of noise. When he heard the noise and saw the slide keep stopping he knew immediately what the problem was as he had seen it before. Besides, if they replace the motor and it keeps doing it, we'll just go back.

Don't think he has the same problem. Believe he has cable operated slides and no hydraulic pump.

Loneoak: We have the HC 310 RE, similar to your 305. Had the same problem with our #2 slide (kitchen one with the refer and range). After several visits to the dealer and several phone calls between the dealer and Keystone, finally got it fixed. They installed rollers under all 3 slides, now it works good most of the time.

Was your motor making a lot of noise when you put the slide out, and did the slide stop on its own several times?

This would not work for us as our door opens all the way - no awning rails in the way. Thanks anyway.

a straight door holder may be an option for you. Or, a friend of mine installed a magnetic catch that is used to hold his hatches up. Works great.

Don't tell me Keystone has stopped putting door holders on Montanas! I've never had a trailer/RV that didn't have one for each door.

On my 2016 High Country , Montana went to a Friction Hinge. Basically there is a set of 4 set screws per hinge that you can adjust to stiffen up the swing of the door . This is supposed to replace the door holder. I don't like putting a bind on the hinge pin, I believe that it will be trouble down the road. My friend has the same friction hinge on his Montana with no adjustment. I didn't want a strong gust of wind slamming my door against the awning arm. On his unit he had problems with the wind slamming the door against the trailer. Looking at the friction hinge made by lippert on their website it lists cost savings plus labor savings as there is no parts ot additional install time . GO FIGURE

We also have a friction hinge. We are going to bide our time and see how it works out.

Do these friction hinges open completely where the door can be flush with the side of the trailer? If so, you can put your own old style door stop on. I had to replace one on my previous Montana and they are pretty cheap.

Yes, it does. We will install a holder if we feel we need it.
