Best places to see and camp in the Florida region

Where are the best (and worst) stops and scenic routes for Montana owners visiting the Florida region? Do you have any recommendations for visitors planning a trip?

We’re looking for information on things to see and do as well as the best dry and hookup camping spots. Please share your thoughts and any size restrictions you’re aware of.

Thank you!

Hi

I have lived in Florida for 72 years. There are many attractions both natural and manmade however the dry camping is almost nonexistent for rigs as big as the Montana.

A number of state parks have semi dry camp sites and we have used a couple and always had problems getting in and out. The sizes of the approaches to the site and the sizes of the camp site are just not intended for the larger rigs. In one case we got in and had to move out in just a few days because the Montana extended out in the roadway were others had problems moving by the rig.

There are a few dry camp sites provided by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission that are real dry campsites absolutely no services but are quite large but some distance from civilization.

You can also check the web for Florida water management districts they have some good dry camp sites and some good camp ground with hookups.

Fort Desoto Park. This is a county park on the West coast of Florida close to St. Petersburg and Tampa FL on the Gulf of Mexico.

Here are links to assist:
https://public.co.pinellas.fl.us/parks/ParksMain.jsp (Reservations)
https://www.pinellascounty.org/park/pdf/campground.pdf (General Info on Park)

Fort Desoto is very close to Clearwater Beach/Clearwater area. There are interstate feeders from the park area to Tampa area to the East and Sarasota/Bradenton/Ft Myers and Naples to the South via I-75.

St. Augustine in the north eastern part of Florida is nice too. We stayed at Stage Coach RV, nice park, but outside of the main drag.

Look into Henderson Beach State Park in Destin. it's Amazing! The sites are set up so that no one can see any other sites. It's tough to get a reservation, but keep checking, they have cancelations from time to time. The sites have water and elect, but no sewar, they do have a dump station. The camp sites have a paved walk to the boardwalk to the beach.

Check Ft Pickens Campground, not far from Pensacola. We will be there in June then we go to St. George Island SP. Reservations may be hard to get.
