Post Hurricane Ike - Galveston Island (And Other)
I took a drive into Galveston yesterday. DW will not go - to traumatic for her. I snapped a few pictures as I was driving so what you see is what you get. Remember that time has passed and much has been cleaned up, but the remnants tell their stories, especially the "Center Of Hope."
These are graphic intensive so they may take a little time loading.

God bless all who have been affected by this tragedy.
Edited:
Did some riding again today and took some snapshots as moving.
Graphic intensive.

A true tragedy. And they are still finding bodies washed up in rubble with many, many still unaccounted for.
Some of the stories are heartbreaking about people who stayed and then phoned friends or relatives just before they were washed away.

Thanks for the pictures Wayne. We used to visit Galveston on occasion. Stayed a time or two at the Hotel Galvez. Terrible destruction down there. I had wondered how the Flagship fared.

Will,
The roadway up to the Flagship caved in on the service ramp side. I'm assuming that all the access ramps will have to be inspected before auto traffic is allowed, without special permits. All other structures over the water are gone or damaged severely.
The Balinese room was totally destroyed.
For those unaware, the Balinese Room was an historic landmark and will be missed.

With the election and the financial crisis, the news on the devastation and loss of life in the Galveston area and parts of LA, Ike will go down in the history books as one of the top 3 or 4 hurricanes of all time. It certainly gets no coverage compared to Katrina. So many will need help and it will take years to rebuild. We sent a small donation to the Red Cross and really feel inadequate. Good Luck and God bless to all those who have lost during Ike. Dennis
