Roof Vent/Skylight Elevating Operator Failure

FYI,
My 05 Montana had two failures, revealed by Tropical Storm Lee winds that removed one Vent Lid, the other restrained by the TV Antenna resting on it.

The Vent Lids were replaced in Oct 2009, but not the elevating operators you crank up and down.

What failed on the elevating operators was the little nylon or plastic wheels that restrain the Lid on the operating lever. The remains just crumbled.

Fortunately, the operators are replaceable and my local RV Repair Shop and Parts Dept had the two new operators and one new Lid I needed. Also, the carpet beneath wasn't stained and was nearly dry when I visited the Trailer today, two days after the last rain.

Both affected vents were seldom used so neither had Max-Air or other Covers and were closed at the time.

Perhaps something to check as your RV ages.

we have kept the max air covers on ours since new, and the lids are still in good shape. On our old trailer the lids did also crack with age,but we did not use the max air covers until a couple years before we traded
