overnight suggestion!!

DH and I will be at the Fall Rally but need a place to stay the night before going into Goshen Fair Grounds. We will be coming down from the St.Clair, Mich area. Does anyone know if we can get into the Fair Grounds 1 day early or if there is a place to boondock in the area? Thanks

Just about 2 miles south (on 33)is of the turnoff to the Elkhart fairgrounds (I believe it's East Monroe St), is a large shopping center on the west side of the highway. We have boondocked in that shopping center many times. The shopping center is or was pretty dead (no business) and it contains the Maple City Chapel which used to be a movie theater which the Mennonites bought and turned into a church. Sometimes there are several trailer haulers who park there overnight before they hit the road to make their deliveries.

We've stayed at the fairgrounds a few times when it was not during the rally. They sometimes are booked up for rallies or other events so be sure to make a reservation. Otherwise, there are several rv parks in the general area although I know of only one (not a very nice one) right in Goshen.

There also is a Walmart SuperCenter on highway 33, just a few miles south of the fairgrounds. I don't know whether they allow overnighting or not. And there's a regular Walmart on 33 heading towards Elkhart. Same story, I don't know if they allow overnighting. Orv's suggestion might be better as there should be less traffic.

Also, we've arrived at the fairgrounds a few days before our rally and got our site early, as have several others. I'd bet there will be others doing the same this year unless the area is booked for another rally. Again, get a reservation as the fairgrounds are a popular rv park.

Last year we called ahead to see if our site would be available early and it was. They even told us to park at our site and they would collect the next day.

Thanks all. I called the fairgrounds and we are guaranteed at least water and elec for the one night. We are good to go...

Joanie after the Fall Rally last year we went up to Shipshawna and stayed for three days at the campground right beside the fleamarket. There are two up there and as I said we stayed at the one next to the fleamarket. It's a new campground with full hookups and VERY reasonable(seems to me it was about $15 a day or so). It is an "honor campground" where you pull in, pick your sight and pay with envelopes provided as you enter the park and drop them in a box at the entrance. They will even take checks which really surprised us! We headed all over from there to all the local attractions and even hit the fleamarket a second time and also hit some of the RV salvage places to find new items and other things we needed for the unit. We'll stay there again when we come back up this fall for the Rally.

Louise and I are talking about doing the same thing after the rally. Maybe we could go together?
