Searchers--please explain "geocaching"
Searchers--your entry on the thread "Person Below Me" mentions geocaching. Would you please explain that to those of us who are COMPLETELY ignorant? It sounds quite intriguing so we'd really like to know. Thanks!!

Bowie--Check out http://www.geocaching.com/ for an explanation of geocaching. It's something we enjoy while camping. A good way to become familiar with a GPS unit, see the local sights and get some excerise. Our user ID derives from our interest in genealogy and geocaching.

Even more interesting than we thought. Thanks for the link. A GPS unit is on our wish list. Knew about the usual application for it but this opens up all kinds of possibilities for fun. Also interesting that you too enjoy genealogy. Pat is our genealogy researcher.

Opened up today's Parade magazine with our KC Star and, lo and behold, there is an article on geocaching! Looking forward to reading it as well as checking out the online link.

Yes, I saw the article also and thought it was a good description of the activity. Our grandkids love to go treasure hunting. We use a topo map software program to get an idea of the terrain and location of the cache before heading out on a trip. I'm into genealogy also and use my GPS to mark and download the locations of old family homesteads and cemeteries on topo maps when returning from research trips.
