Brake Controller Cable

While on this trip the break controller cable has come out 3 times when we were making a turn. It is dangerous and scares me to death.
Has anyone had to replace this or does anyone have any ideas on fixing it?

Are you talking about the power cable or the emergency cable?

I am assuming this is the cable between the truck and the RV that has the brake and light circuits in it. The spring on the socket cover on our truck failed many years ago. I use a small canvas belt (1/2 inch wide) that I got to strap things to my back pack to tie down the cover to the cable connector once it is connected to the truck. Ours failed on oun 2007 trip to Alaska. No problem since that time. The strap has a nice buckle that clamps down on the strap to securely hold it from slipping. Hope this helps.

Broke my socket lid on a trip to AZ last winter and fixed the cable to the back of the truck with a "Strap-it" (stretchy velcro strap).

I think it is the emergency cable. It attaches from the plate to the handle of the hitch.

Ah, the Break-a-Way switch cable. Just had that happen recently as we were heading out, made a hard left out of the driveway, then a hard right onto the main road and things came to a stop. Used one of those little 3M stick-ons to hold wires like extension cord and such and put it on the side to hold the cable up away from the hitch plates. Seems to be working fine as we made it to the North East Rally without an issue.

Whit is the emergency breakaway switch. When you are parking , if necessary you can unhook the cable , roll it up to prevent it hanging on something. It is not necessary while maneuvering to park. Or, make sure there is nothing to hang on.Larry

Make sure it is not getting tangled up on the hitch handle, or something in the truck bed. Mine pulled out during a turn, and it had snagged on the hitch handle and pulled out.

You don't have to attach it to the handle ... just anything solid on the hitch ... if you don't have an existing hole, drill about a 1/4" hole in your hitch frame towards the rear and use a carabiner to hook and unhook it. In the rear position, it is less likely to get hooked on something.
