IKEA
I know this is totally OFF TOPIC but we just got an IKEA across from the Mall of America and I would like to buy some furniture but wanted advice. Their stuff isn't cheap (inexpensive) by any means for a couch, well at least the one I'm looking at. I was wondering if anyone has bought from there and if it's cheap (poorly made).

Mel -
We've acquired furniture from them when we lived in Norway. It's been a while, but I remember it as being pretty good quality for furniture that wasn't made from solid wood. I think there was liberal use of pressed board. The stuff was heavy. There'll probably be some differences with time and geography differences; but I basically trust the name.

Thanks, that's nice to know. I know you do get what you pay for but $1300 for a couch is a bunch so I was wondering BEFORE I jumped in. LOL

Mel - Have purchased odds and ends from the IKEA store just outside of Chicago. Very satisfied with my purchases. Always look at their furniture, but have never made a purchase. They really have such stylish stuff at affordable prices. Good to know that there now is a store in Twin City area. Good luck in your upcoming purchase.

Try ikea.com for a store locator... looks like Illinois or Minneapolis for you folks. We're in Ottawa On. right now.
I see they have a menu up ... looks like breakfast is $1.99 regular... the local store must have a special on now.

Know this is an old topic but...we bought IKEA furniture for our boys bedrooms back in 1988. They assembled it themselves and were quite proud of it. We moved it cross country twice and sent one set to the UK and back. One boy used his in a college dorm and fraternity. Both used the stuff in their bachelor pads. Now they are using the things in their kids bedrooms. Still looks pretty good except for the bureau which fell off the back of a pick-up truck during a cross town move in Boulder. Should we become product endorsers? Hope you enjoy your purchase!
